Responsibilities


Position Summary


Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Education/Staff Development, the Education/Staff Development Educator is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and facilitating education and training programs for professional employees, clinical employees, non-professional employees, current or past patients, students, volunteers, and community members in order to provide the highest quality patient care and satisfaction. This may include orientation programs; in-services, of training programs including BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP; patient and/or community related education; on-line education programs and/or courses, and oversight of CE programs with the Board of Registered Nursing or other regulatory body requirements. .


+ All educational programs will meet regulatory, professional, and hospital standards. Project/program design, course design, collecting data, and reporting data are all components of this position. Incumbents in this position may provide oversight of adequate instructor staff for courses offered including development and tracking of the schedule of courses, rooms, tools, and materials. Working variable hours may be required at times.

+ The ability to work autonomously and in coordination with department directors, supervisors and other educators is essential. This may include but is not limited to participation in various committees throughout the organization. May participate in the organization of community based education and/or events as needed.

+ This position requires the full understanding, demonstration and active participation in fulfilling the Mission, Vision and Values of the Organization.

+ Is responsible for securely processing credit/debit card payments and maintaining the secure accessibility of the point of sale machine.

+ Verifying identity and signatures of the payer prior to purchasing services.

+ Job incumbents may be asked to perform other duties.


Qualifications


Minimum


+ Must possess and maintain a current Registered Nurse License with the state of California.

+ Current valid California Drivers License.

+ Demonstrated ability to apply theories of adult education and teaching methods.

+ Experience using Microsoft Office applications. .

+ Must possess and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

+ Must possess and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificate.

+ May be requested to obtain AHA Instructor certifications per the needs of the Department. Ability to work on multiple projects and meet established deadlines.

+ Able to work with minimum supervision, varying hours, and work in various locations and conditions.

+ Able to work in a culturally and socio-economic diverse environment.

+ The AHA requires that Instructors be at least 16 years of age for Heartsaver Instructor and BLS

+ Instructor courses. ACLS and PALS Instructors must be at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation where such skills are within the provider scope of practice.


Preferred


+ Bachelor's degree in health related field

+ Familiarity with all aspects of technical, clerical, and fiscal management of a hospital department.

+ Prior educator experience.

+ Strong knowledge base in health education programs and project management skills


Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
