As the day begins, you triage work orders and prioritize the toughest diagnostics. You calibrate your diagnostic suite, isolate an elusive electrical fault, and coach an apprentice through a hydraulic test. Mid-morning brings a round of preventive services that keep downtime to a minimum, followed by meticulous inspections to certify every repair meets safety and quality benchmarks. By afternoon, you’ve updated service logs, coordinated parts, verified compliance with environmental and shop policies, and debriefed supervisors or customers on findings and next steps.

Your scope

• Pinpoint complex faults across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Execute repairs, scheduled services, and detailed inspections on vehicles and equipment.
• Plan and perform preventive maintenance to minimize outages.
• Lead, coach, and develop junior mechanics and apprentices.
• Verify completed work meets quality specs and safety standards before release.
• Leverage advanced diagnostic tools and test equipment to identify root causes.
• Document work thoroughly and keep accurate service and repair records.
• Manage parts orders, inventory controls, and essential shop supplies.
• Uphold company policies, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Clearly communicate diagnostics and maintenance recommendations to supervisors or customers.

Background to excel

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in automotive or mechanical disciplines preferred.
• 5–10 years as a mechanic/technician working on vehicles or mechanical equipment.
• Deep knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Hands-on proficiency with diagnostic instruments and repair tools.
• Valid driver’s license (where required).
• ASE or comparable credential is a plus for automotive-focused work.
