Job Description
Grace has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist.
The EHS Specialist is a highly visible position and plays a critical part in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, customers, community, and the environment. You will interact with plant personnel, site management, outside contractors and vendors.
Your role will contribute to our “Goal to Zero” safety philosophy and will be a key contributor to Grace’s Safety Culture!
This position is located at our Chicago 71st manufacturing facility and reports to the EHS Manager.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily plant inspections and reviews to ensure all work permits, safety policies and procedures are being followed.
- Develop, review and maintain Safety Policies in compliance with Corporate Policies
- Responsible for the site’s Emergency Response Teams (Hazwoper, Medical First Responder, Confined Space Rescue, and Fire Brigade)
- Develop and lead special Safety Projects for the site including required Corporate Initiatives
- Responsible for managing site contractors, including security, to ensure proper training and safety policies and procedures are being following.
- Assemble and lead the sites safety teams by scheduling monthly meetings, producing written meeting notes, and hosting an end-of-year meeting/meal with a power point presentation.
- Daily, monthly and annual reviews of site PPE selection, and review of other EHS systems at the site.
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
Required Qualifications
- 1-3 years’ experience in safety leadership, or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing safety sensitive position
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in EHS or related field
- Past experience in safety management in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence others to create a positive safety culture.
