HiFyve is hiring an EHS Engineer (Safety & Occupational Health) in the aerospace manufacturing industry in Wichita, KS!

Location: Wichita, KS

Shift: Monday – Friday (schedule may vary to support multiple shifts)

Pay: $60,000 – $80,000/year

We are seeking an experienced EHS Engineer to support a growing aerospace manufacturing operation by reducing workplace risk through technical evaluation, industrial hygiene programs, and engineered safety solutions. This role is ideal for a safety professional with manufacturing or aerospace experience who enjoys partnering with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive sustainable safety improvements and occupational health initiatives.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and support formal risk assessments, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and task-based risk evaluations
  • Develop and implement engineered safety controls such as machine guarding, interlocks, ventilation improvements, and ergonomic redesigns
  • Support capital projects and equipment installations through safety-by-design reviews and EHS specification development
  • Coordinate and conduct environmental, health, and safety training programs for employees
  • Partner with third-party industrial hygiene consultants to evaluate workplace exposures including noise, airborne contaminants, dusts, solvents, vapors, and metalworking fluids
  • Drive improvements to OSHA safety training programs and occupational health initiatives
  • Coordinate contractor and vendor safety compliance for onsite work and maintenance activities
  • Support respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs through hazard evaluation and control recommendations
  • Assess and improve machine safeguarding programs including CNC equipment, grinders, drills, overhead cranes, and other production machinery
  • Evaluate and strengthen Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, crane safety, paint booth, and hazardous exposure programs
  • Lead Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention efforts through critical control verification
  • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions focused on eliminating hazards
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety incidents requiring medical attention
  • Develop and maintain EHS procedures, technical standards, and safety documentation
  • Lead internal audits, inspections, and corrective action follow-up activities
  • Facilitate safety committees and employee engagement initiatives
  • Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related technical field
  • 3+ years of safety and occupational health experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and implementing engineering controls
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations and safety program management
  • Experience driving employee engagement and behavior-based safety initiatives
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause investigation skills
  • Ability to influence operations and engineering teams to improve workplace safety
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and documentation skills
  • First Aid & CPR Certification required
  • HAZWOPER Certification required

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience strongly preferred
  • CSP, CIH, or progress toward certification
  • Experience supporting customer audits and regulatory inspections
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing hazards including machining, coolants, solvents, composites, dusts, adhesives, paint operations, and finishing processes
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • 100% onsite role within an aerospace manufacturing facility
  • Regular exposure to production environments requiring PPE
  • Ability to access platforms, ladders, machinery, and restricted work areas as permitted
  • Ability to support incident response and occasional off-shift activities
  • Exposure to manufacturing hazards including CNC machining operations, metalworking fluids, chemicals, solvents, paint operations, compressed gases, energized equipment, and high-noise environments
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and occasionally lift materials as needed
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no sponsorship available
