Trident Seafoods is North America"s largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company. Trident catches and processes virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also encompasses cultured and wild species sourced from an international network of trusted suppliers.

Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for partnering with operations, maintenance, and support staff. This includes planning, developing, implementing, updating, and administering EHS policies, procedures, programs, and training to ensure compliance with all company standards and governmental regulations that protect Trident employees and assets.

Essential Functions: (Responsibilities, Tasks, Supervisory Needs)

  • Partners with site Management, Human Resources, and Corporate Safety to deploy and implement the Trident Safety Process and to fully prepare or maintain facilities for OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) accreditation.
  • Develops and manages inspection procedures to identify and address areas presenting hazard or risk.
  • Manages and maintains industrial wastewater treatment system, including collection and conveyance systems.
  • Manages stormwater pollution prevention program and responds to emergencies involving release of pollutants; coordinates, trains, and provides technical expertise to other wastewater treatment operations staff and coordinates on-site responses to unusual occurrences and emergencies.
  • Establishes reporting procedures to track and document inspection findings.
  • Implements and oversees the administration and training of policies and procedures for all environmental and wastewater processes within the facility.
  • Evaluates hazardous conditions or practices and develops and implements effective and sustainable hazard control practices and programs.
  • Develops and implements training programs to cover emergency procedures, environmental compliance, workplace safety, and other areas consistent with governmental regulations and business needs. Maintains training records.
  • Ensures safety compliance by overseeing Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulatory shifts other regulatory related activities and procedures.
  • Plans and directs safety and industrial hygiene services and monitors third-party administration of the Workers Compensation program.
  • Defines and prioritizes site programs to meet the needs of regulatory compliance, risk analysis recommendations, corporate policies and site-specific procedures and audit findings. Assists plant staff in prioritization of action items to address gaps.
  • Identifies sources of safety and health risk and develops programs, policies, and procedures. Perform risk analysis/JSA/JHA on job tasks. Maintains Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) program.
  • Investigates fatalities, serious injuries, and near misses that occur at company facilities while leading A3 for any recordables.

This is a salaried exempt position between $110,000 to $140,000 per year.

Minimum Requirements

Travel/On-Call Requirements: Some occasional travel to other facilities may be required, less than 10% annually.

Required Qualifications: (Education, Years of Experience, Certifications)

  • A minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibilities in EHS and/or environmental & safety programs in manufacturing, production, or a related industry
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental safety, or other relevant technical fields (or equivalent combination of education and additional experience)
  • HAZWOPER certification is required or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • A minimum of two years of supervisory/management experience

Preferred Education & Experiences:

  • Occupational Health-Safety and/or accredited professional certification professional is strongly preferred
  • Experience in the seafood industry or in a further process operation (batter, breaded, fried)
  • Ability to establish and evaluate strategic goals and metrics for measuring success.
  • Strong collaboration, analytical, influential, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Minimum wastewater operations experience required preferably with biological treatment systems.
  • Wastewater Operator certification
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including interfacing with site management and leading group meetings.
  • Must be results-oriented with the ability to drive continuous improvement within the Safety and Occupational Health department as well as the overall organization
  • Strong working knowledge technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and State L&I and OHSA regulations, safety practices.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable local, regional, and federal requirements.

Work environment:

This role takes place in both an office and production setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

Work Ability Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb at great heights or balance. The employee is frequently required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. Job requires working in close confines. The employee moves objects regularly up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
