Sterling Engineering is partnering with a plastics packaging manufacturer to identify an EHS Manager to lead environmental, health, and safety initiatives at their Chilhowie, VA facility. This role will oversee plant-wide EHS programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in safety culture and performance.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all environmental, health, and safety programs across the facility
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all federal, state, and local regulations
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and training programs
- Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Maintain accurate reporting and documentation for injuries, illnesses, and compliance records
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and environmental inquiries
- Obtain and manage environmental permits and regulatory approvals as required
- Drive continuous improvement of safety programs, culture, and overall incident reduction
- Lead safety committees and promote a proactive, plant-wide safety culture
- Analyze EHS data to identify trends and implement improvement initiatives
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational goals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field required
- 3–5+ years of EHS experience within a manufacturing environment required
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and regulatory compliance requirements required
- Experience leading EHS programs, training, and continuous improvement initiatives required
- Proven ability to conduct investigations and perform root cause analysis required
- Experience working with environmental permits and regulatory agencies required
- Strong communication skills with the ability to train and influence at all levels of the organization
- Experience building and promoting a strong safety culture within a manufacturing setting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS reporting systems
- ISO 45001 or OSHA VPP experience preferred
