Role Overview

Lead Environmental, Health, and Safety excellence for Chemtrade operations in Augusta, GA. You will guide Responsible Care programs and site EHS management systems to drive risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and a culture of proactive safety.

• Reports to: Regional EHS Manager
• Compensation: $115,000–$130,000 USD + bonus + benefits
• Travel: 30–50%, including occasional full-week site visits

A Day In The Life

Your day starts by reviewing open actions in the Incident Management and Action Item databases. You head to the plant, walk down a new process modification with engineering, and approve critical work permits. Midday, you facilitate a root-cause investigation for a near miss, then coach supervisors on corrective actions. The afternoon is dedicated to updating permit records, planning air and noise sampling for industrial hygiene, and preparing an RC14001 audit schedule. You finish by mentoring EHS staff, aligning with the site manager on priorities, and submitting a brief performance report to the Regional EHS Manager.

What You Will Do

• Own the local deployment of Chemtrade EHS and Responsible Care policies, standards, and procedures across assigned facilities.
• Maintain site management systems: Incident Management Database, Action Item Database, and the EHS Compliance Calendar; complete routine reporting, audits, and permit renewals on time.
• Coach leaders and frontline teams to identify hazards and implement robust controls; participate in incident investigations, safety audits, PSM reviews, design reviews, project teams, and job hazard analyses.
• Promote early reporting and thorough investigation of injuries, illnesses, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Lead programs meeting or exceeding national, provincial/state, and local requirements and customer expectations across environmental, occupational safety, transportation, security, Responsible Care Codes, and RC14001 (approximately 15% program leadership emphasis).
• Support industrial hygiene through air and noise monitoring, exposure assessments, and timely reporting.
• Contribute to Quality and continuous improvement via ISO 9000 and RC14001 processes.
• Ensure environmental permits and submissions are current; manage interactions with regulators, insurers, and EHS consultants.
• Provide training, maintain records, and keep appropriate safety supplies available; champion continual improvement of site EHS culture.
• Lead, develop, and evaluate assigned EHS team members; provide direction and performance reviews.
• Perform additional tasks in support of Chemtrade EHS objectives as directed by the EHS Resource Team Director and site manager.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering/science, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or related discipline preferred (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of EHS leadership in chemical manufacturing or a comparable industrial environment.
• Advanced command of EHS regulations, management systems, and regulatory agency engagement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the confidence to influence at all organizational levels.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and strong online research skills.
• Proven leadership, collaboration, and consensus-building capabilities.
• Analytical, solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding organizational and presentation abilities; adept at juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Willingness to travel 30–50% as business needs dictate, at times for a full week.

Preferred Credentials

• CSP, CIH, CHMM, or similar certifications.
• Hazardous materials response training (40-hour HazMat Technician) and confined space rescue familiarity.
• PSM implementation experience and capability to lead PHAs (HAZOP or equivalent).
• Knowledge of Responsible Care programs and RC14001, plus ANSI, API, NFPA standards.
• Comfort with databases for trending and analysis; awareness of workers’ compensation requirements.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Agility in shifting priorities to meet compliance and risk reduction goals.
