Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist
Location: Raritan, NJ 08869
Duration: 12 months contract
• Responsible for the day-to-day activities supporting Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs for the assigned location.
• Supports the Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and safety or environmental non-compliances.
• Partners with employees and management to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
• Serves as a safety champion and advisor for OSHA, EPA, environmental compliance, and workplace safety programs.
Education & Experience
• Associate degree in Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years of related Environmental Health & Safety experience required.
• Experience in medical device, biotech, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or manufacturing environments preferred.
Required Skills
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.
• Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, hazardous waste, and environmental compliance programs.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• First Aid/AED & CPR and Hazardous Waste Management credentials preferred.
• Understanding of ISO, FDA, and quality management systems.
• Support communication, awareness, and enforcement of site safety programs and Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) requirements.
• Provide guidance on OSHA, EPA, environmental compliance, and internal safety policies.
• Support site safety reporting, metrics, Gemba walks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in investigations of workplace injuries, incidents, near misses, and environmental non-compliance events.
• Conduct routine EH&S inspections covering fire safety, hazardous waste, biological waste, wastewater, air compliance, and related regulatory requirements.
• Develop and support Job Safety Protocols, policies, and employee training programs.
• Oversee hazardous waste and biowaste services, inspections, pickups, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead Safety Committee meetings and related projects.
• Coordinate emergency equipment inspections, first aid supplies, and waste management vendors.
• Maintain EH&S records, permits, licenses, training records, compliance calendars, and workers' compensation documentation.
• Create, update, and deliver site safety training.
• Track utility usage, waste generation, chemical inventories, and environmental metrics.
• Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance documentation.
• Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team for medical, chemical, biological, and physical incidents.
• Recommend corrective actions and support enforcement of safety and environmental compliance requirements.
• Maintain compliance with established business, quality, and safety policies.
• Office environment with exposure to laboratory, manufacturing, and warehouse areas.
• Typical work allocation includes meetings, administrative activities, safety inspections, employee engagement, and risk assessments.
• Flexible work hours may be required to support projects, shift operations, and emergency response activities.
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb ladders, and access elevated areas.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent handling of waste containers and safety equipment.
• Potential exposure to chemical and biological hazards during spill response and waste management activities.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
