Job Title: EHS Specialist II

Location: South San Francisco, CA (100% Onsite)

Duration: 9-Month Contract (Potential Extension Based on Performance & Business Needs)

Schedule: Monday Friday | 7:00 AM 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM 5:00 PM PST

Job Summary

We are seeking an EHS Specialist II to support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) operations within a research and development environment. This role will work closely with site leadership, employees, contractors, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliance with EHS regulations, promote workplace safety, and strengthen site-wide safety culture initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of OSHA and California EHS regulations, experience supporting laboratory and operational safety programs, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across site operations and laboratory environments
  • Develop, revise, and maintain EHS training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs) aligned with company and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct EHS risk assessments for laboratory and operational processes, identifying and implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Participate in EHS incident investigations and support CAPA implementation efforts
  • Conduct laboratory safety inspections, document findings, and provide recommendations for compliance improvements
  • Research and recommend EHS solutions to address safety concerns, compliance gaps, and operational risks
  • Support emergency preparedness activities including emergency response training, drills, and volunteer coordination
  • Assist with EHS record management, retention, and archiving activities
  • Perform audits of laboratory signage and hazard communication programs to ensure compliance with local regulations
  • Collaborate with local EHS teams and stakeholders to promote a proactive safety culture

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field
  • 1 3+ years of experience supporting EHS programs in regulated environments
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and California EHS compliance requirements
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and data tracking systems
