EIR Accessibility Specialist

iSphere is looking for an EIR Accessibility Specialist who knows that making a document accessible is more than running an automated checker and hoping all the boxes turn green.

This role will focus heavily on creating, updating, and remediating documents in PDF, Word, and other formats so they meet accessibility standards. You will also help establish better processes around accessible content creation, document best practices, remediation, testing, and long-term compliance.

You will work with document authors, content creators, developers, managers, and other teams across the organization to improve accessibility at both the individual document level and the broader enterprise level.

A big part of this role is hands-on remediation. You should be very comfortable with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, PDF tagging, HTML structures, and the accessibility properties that make documents usable with assistive technologies.

You will also help create standards, document best practices, recommend tools and process improvements, research accessibility requirements, and train others on how to create accessible content correctly from the beginning instead of fixing everything afterward.

What we need:

• 5+ years of experience with EIR accessibility and assistive technologies used by people with disabilities

• 5+ years using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat to create and remediate accessible documents and forms

• 3+ years working with HTML and PDF tag structures, attributes, and accessibility properties

• Experience performing both manual and tool-assisted accessibility testing

• Strong knowledge of WCAG, Section 508, ADA accessibility requirements, Texas Government Code Section 2054.460, and Texas Administrative Code Chapters 206 and 213

• Ability to identify applicable accessibility success criteria and explain what needs to be corrected

• Experience training or coaching others on accessible document and form creation

• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams

Experience developing, implementing, or interpreting EIR accessibility policies and procedures in public or private organizations would be a big plus.

Experience with automated remediation tools, document management integrations, or other enterprise accessibility solutions will also get our attention.

The person who does well here will be comfortable getting into the details of a broken PDF, but also thinking about why the organization keeps producing broken PDFs in the first place. You should be able to fix the immediate problem, teach people how to avoid it next time, and help improve the processes and tools behind the scenes.
