Position Summary

Performs EKGs and places Event Monitors on patients under the supervision and direction of the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

  • Perform EKGs, place Event Monitors prior to patient discharge, and conduct Implantable Cardiac Device (ICD) interrogations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and precise patient documentation.
  • Respond to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, providing assistance as needed.
  • Accurately document verbal and telephone cardiology orders from physicians in patient records.
  • Participate in the hospital quality assurance program.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Assist with clerical and administrative duties as required.
  • Transmit floor EKGs to the appropriate data management systems.
  • Prepare completed EKGs for physician interpretation.
  • Review, edit, and ensure proper documentation of all performed EKGs, including attaching appropriate orders prior to assigning them to the interpreting cardiologist.
  • Assist with cardiology procedures, including:
    • Cardioversions
    • Tilt Table Tests
    • Exercise and Pharmacologic Echocardiogram Stress Tests
    • Nuclear Stress Tests
  • Configure, place, analyze, and troubleshoot Holter monitors.
  • Register Event and Loop Recorders and prepare weekly/monthly ECG recordings for physician review.
  • Prepare patients for stress testing procedures and assist cardiologists during testing as needed.
  • Educate patients and families regarding Holter Monitors, Event Monitors, and Loop Recorders.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies, procedures, and standards.

Other Related Functions

  • Assist with patient transportation as needed.
  • Schedule patients for cardiology procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient care by applying knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan.
  • Assess patient needs, interpret age-specific requirements, and provide care according to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through continuing education and ongoing training.
Qualifications:

Education/Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of the Basic ECG Interpretation for Non-Licensed Personnel course.

Licensure/Certification

  • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) / Healthcare Provider certification.

Experience

  • No prior experience required.
