Performs technical procedures and functions for electro diagnostics. Observes cardiac monitors and identifies, calculates, interprets and communicates information regarding cardiac rhythms. Applies and discontinues telemetry services as instructed. Enters telemetry charges, edits, and other paperwork as applicable to the department.
What You'll Do
Essential Functions
Process: Observes assigned cardiac monitor screens. Enter and discontinue telemetry channel numbers into Net Access. Maintain supplies in the work area. Keep waste of supplies to a minimum. Labels defective equipment and cleans equipment after each use. Implements and documents alarm changes as requested by nurse. Complete work assignments in a timely manner. Performs cardiac tests as required by department which may include: 12 and 15 Lead ECG's; SAECG's; holter monitor applications; correct rhythm strips; stress tests; prepares patient for procedure/test; adapt electrodiagnostic procedures/processes for the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient by following the established department procedures and protocols (as applicable to department).
Clerical: Demonstrates knowledge of MUSE system by editing, generating report, reconciliation of charges and assigning EKGs. Assist in resolving incorrect EKG entry into MUSE. Demonstrates knowledge and basic understanding of the hospital information system computer functions, including downtime procedures, and physician EKG reading schedule to use as resource tool to notify physicians when EKGs need to be read timely.
Communication: Communicates and documents rhythm interpretations to appropriate personnel. Communicate to appropriate persons when supplies need to be ordered. Communicates with the nurse regarding alarm management to request alarm changes. Implements and documents alarm changes as requested by nurse. Demonstrate exceptional telephone courtesy in all communication. Documents legibly.
Education: Acts as a preceptor for newly hired staff. Maintain clinical and professional competencies according to department policies: Attends department meeting as specified by departmental requirements. Complete department and hospital mandatory education requirements. Attends continuing education classes as specified by department requirements.
Teamwork: Demonstrates flexibility and assists coworkers to assure that all patient care and department needs are met.
Quality Improvement: Intervenes when standards of care are not met. Makes suggestions and helps with implementation of improvement processes. Monitor and implement procedures relevant to job safety to include: standard precautions, body mechanics, hazmat procedures, isolation techniques, needle disposal and equipment/supply checks. Makes suggestions and helps with implementation of improvement processes.
Customer Satisfaction: Provides the best in customer service standards to include: courtesy, commitment, communication, appearance, customer waiting, privacy and respect. Exhibits characteristics of compassion (treat customers with kindness, patience, empathy and respect).
