Job Description

The Grafton School District is searching for an EL Aide for John Long Middle School from the hours of 9:15am-3:15pm. Currently the District serves over 70 students who are identified as English Language Learners and there are almost 20 different home languages represented. Due to this increasing language diversity, the District is looking for qualified EL Aides to assist students with increasing English proficiency.

Applicants should be energetic individuals who possess a passion for working with children. A high school diploma is required with a preference for individuals with post secondary education or training in meeting the needs of children who are acquiring a new language. Applicants should be fluent in English, with bilingual proficiency in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish and other world languages being a bonus but not required.

EL Aides will work under the direction of the Districts EL Coordinator and report to building principals. The Grafton School District has been recognized as a Top Workplace by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Introduces and interprets concepts and vocabulary in content areas so that students can understand and work independently;
  • Conducts instructional exercises created by the teacher with individual students and small groups;
  • Works with students who are English learners in an individual or small group setting;
  • Works with students while pushing-in to classrooms (or pulling-out when necessary) to support them with all aspects of English language acquisition (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and understanding);
  • Meets with English Language Coordinator to provide updates on student data and collaborate for lesson planning;
  • Provides assistance with the implementation of lessons (with support) for students;
  • Collaborates with teachers and administrators;
  • Supports students emotionally/socially and academically;
  • Delivers instruction under the direction of the English Language Coordinator;
  • As requested, attends grade level meetings, support teachers with regard to their students;
  • Uses English language resources such as Google Translate to support student learning;
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding students, student records, parents, staff, and other school-related issues;
  • Assists with tasks related to the Library Media Center such checking out books, assisting with chromebooks, and supervising students
