Qualifications:

Valid Tennessee teaching license

Certification: Valid state teaching certification/licensure in English Language Arts for the relevant grade levels.

Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to foster critical thinking and motivate students.

Experience: Previous experience teaching ELA at the middle or high school level is highly valued.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

An English Language Arts (ELA) teacher instructs students in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking. They develop standards-based curricula, analyze literature, foster literacy skills, and assess student progress through varied assessments. Key duties include creating a positive, inclusive classroom, differentiating instruction, and communicating with parents

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  1. Curriculum Development: Design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that cover literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
  2. Instruction & Literacy: Teach reading comprehension, critical analysis of texts, and composition (creative, analytical, persuasive writing).
  3. Assessment & Evaluation: Regularly evaluate student work (essays, tests, projects), provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of progress.
  4. Classroom Management: Establish a positive, safe, and productive learning environment with clear procedures for student behavior.
  5. Differentiation: Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs and abilities, including providing interventions or extension activities.
  6. Collaboration & Communication: Meet with colleagues, parents, and administration to discuss student performance and support student growth.
  7. Technology Integration: Use educational technology and digital resources to enhance instruction
