$70 to $75 per hour contract with a conversion salary of $155K to $165K annually

Summary
We're seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Search Engineer who thrives on building and improving scalable solutions using the latest technologies. You'll play a key role in developing, optimizing, and fine-tuning our search and discovery systems to enhance user experience and enable data-driven decisions. This role requires strong collaboration across Product, Engineering, DevOps, and Data teams, as well as a proven ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and solve complex problems with creativity and precision.

Responsibilities

• Enhance search relevance through keyword fine-tuning and advanced techniques such as BM25, Query Expansion, ANN Dense Retrieval, Sparse Retrieval, Semantic Search, and Entity Recognition Models.
• Implement Learning to Rank models and Query Rescorers to improve result accuracy.
• Develop APIs to integrate with custom ML models supporting reranking, personalization, and visual merchandising.
• Optimize search indexes and experiment with analyzers for performance improvements.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to deliver impactful search solutions.
• Mentor and coach team members to promote technical excellence and innovation.

• Strong programming experience with Python and MySQL.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing with Elasticsearch.
• Proficiency in API development and working with frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Solid understanding of database architecture and design.
• Experience using ELK stack tools.
• Analytical, data-driven mindset with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Excellent communication in spoken and written English.

• Experience with embeddings and vector databases.
• Background in working with Machine Learning Engineers or Data Scientists.
• ElasticSearch certification
