  • Ensures food safety practices, nutrition education, and cost-effective meals in accordance with local, state and federal requirements
  • Manages day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the meal delivery program.
  • Trains and supervises kitchen staff and driver.
  • Maintains rigorous sanitary conditions, follows food safety handling protocols, and tracks food temperatures.
  • Maintain and monitor food inventory, proper storage, vendor orders, supervises food preparation, cooking and delivery of meals to tribal elders.
  • Helps to develop and monitor menu planning with special dietary needs pertaining to federal and state regulations.
  • Develops, plan and monitor department budgets; monitor monthly expenditures.
  • Manages weekly inventory of food and supplies and order as needed.
  • Conducts nutrition assessments and provides nutrition education & activities to participants individually or in groups.
  • Develops, implements and analyzes policies and procedures for the Elder Nutrition Program.
  • Develops, implement and maintain intake forms. Maintain case management files.
  • Evaluates, assess, plans and monitors participants' nutrition and health needs according to individuals' goals; well visits, transportation to medical appointments, coordinate care services; such as Social Security or AZAHCCCS, assist participants to identify and obtain resources.
  • Responsible for programmatic monthly, quarterly and yearly reports to various grant agencies.
  • Host educational workshops and activities based on healthy eating habits.
  • Prepare educational material and provide resources on nutrition-related topics.
  • Maintain records per different grant guidelines and requirements.
  • Conduct wellness checks and assessments.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal food handling, health codes and sanitation principles.
  • Must have knowledge of tribal government, agencies such as Title III, VI, XX and LIHEAP, Indian Health Care System, Older American Act and HIPAA laws.
  • Must have excellent proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure under time constraints.
  • Must demonstrate an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information.
  • Must be organized, multitasked, detail-oriented, self-motivated and function well under stress.
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly and dedicated to helping meet their needs.
  • Must be able to understand and respect the traditional values of the elders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must maintain an Arizona Food Handlers Card.
  • Must maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Must be certified in CPR/First Aide.
  • Must be able to pass an FBI/DPS fingerprint background check.
  • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated or must obtain prior to the completion of the first 120-day training period.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in related field such as food service, nutrition or dietitian.
  • 3-years specialized nutrition work experience working with the elderly.
  • 5-years in a related field, management or supervisory position.

Under the supervision of the Tribal Administrator, the Elder Nutrition Specialist is responsible for helping elders enrolled in the program with adopting healthier eating habits, including those with special dietary needs. The Elder Nutrition Specialist is responsible for case management of tribal elders; planning, development, implementation, transportation, modification and monitoring of health care and social assistance.
