Election Specialist I - $45,972.160 - $64,361.020

This role is an entry-level position in Elections. This position may assist in recruiting and maintaining temporary election workers, ballot processing areas including Agilis, Signature Verification, Ballot Prep and Health Care Facility (HCF) program and VSPC. Assists with Data entry including registering voters, updating voter records, performing voter record maintenance, and providing information regarding voting and voter registration. This position requires attention to detail, a professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Election Specialist II - $48,730.490 - $68,222.680

This is a mid-level position that consistently meets or exceeds the expectations of an Election Specialist I. This position will demonstrate attention to detail, a professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Providing information regarding voting and voter registration through phone and digital communication. Assists in voter merge, processing notices, mail, answering the phone, online communication as well as election-specific tasks surrounding UOCAVA and Health Care Facilities. Has the ability to use reference materials such as Title 1 or SOS rule to obtain information and properly apply that information.

Examples of Duties for Success

Election Specialist I

  • May assist with all aspects of the ballot processing programs.
  • May assist with the Heath Care Facilities program.
  • May assist with Voter Service and Polling Centers
  • Ability to acquire and maintain technical working knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, Secretary of State rules, regulations, policies, standards, and/or procedures.

  • Completes monthly list maintenance
  • Maintain confidentiality of personally identifiable information within protected documents per Colorado statute
  • Utilizes knowledge of election regulations and procedures or refers to statutes in order to disseminate information. May interpret broad policies to fit specific problems.
  • Provide outstanding customer service in person, over the phone, and online communication
  • Creates, revises, and maintains standard operating procedures
  • Provides program support to manager in assigned area.
  • Assists in the training of new Election Specialist I and temporary staff.

Qualifications for Success

Election Specialist I

  • General knowledge of election administration processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of data entry and ability to accurately meet data entry standards
  • Basic computer skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to easily adapt to changing work environment
  • Ability to become a Colorado Certified Election Official through the Secretary of State's office within one (1) year and fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain Colorado Election Official Certification
  • Ability to learn SCORE and understand additional technology that assists in the election process
  • Demonstrates professionalism in handling angry or upset individuals on the telephone, in person, or through digital communication
  • Ability to perform strenuous work such as loading, unloading, and lifting heavy objects.
