As a key member of the motor research team, the Electric Motor and Powertrain Testing Engineer will be responsible for performing electric motor testing for new product development and technology exploration. This position will be critical for Tesla's current and future electric vehicles. This person will be working closely with the dyno hardware team, software team, dyno operation team and motor control team, to program-manage motor testing activities.
Program-manage motor testing for product development and technology development
Interface with dyno hardware team, and software team, program-manage dyno infrastructure development and asset maintenance
Collaborate with testing engineers across teams to continue developing and improving in-house electric motor testing setup and sequences
Perform standard testing of motor losses, parse and digest testing data, review testing results within motor research team and across teams
Develop non-standardized testing methods and procedures to qualify improved motor design, creating testing methodologies and standards for similar programs in the future
Derive optimal motor control map, and support motor control firmware development
Support new motor technologies development, creating testing ideas and testing plans
Collaborate with motor design software architecture team, provide ideas and feedback to improve motor testing and parsing accuracy and efficiency
Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience
Solid understanding of motor & inverter operating principle
Proficient with efficiency measurement, familiar with power analyzer, and torque transducer
Good understanding of powertrain system engineering and high voltage system.
Familiarity with motor & inverter failure mode
Experience with Matlab or Python programming skills
Expertise on dyno design preferred
Knowledge on motor control theory preferred
Expertise on NVH analysis in electric motors and drive unit preferred

$91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
