The primary responsibility of this position is to perform a variety of apprentice level electrical work. This position is entry level and requires to be under responsibility of a Journeyman at all times. First year of AVTEC program.

Specific duties include:

  • Applicants would possess state of Alaska trainee card and be enrolled in AVTEC apprentice program.
  • This level of employee would be exposed to and trained under a Journeyman with daily tasks and perform AVTEC academic training at level 1. Review of candidate to be performed by Supervisor periodically.
  • First year of AVTEC program. New constructions hours only will accrue towards 8000 hours requirement, maintenance hours do not accrue.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Experience with mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, basic welding skills, lubrication, tune-ups, tire repairs,
  • This Position Requires the person to be registered in an indentured 4 year Electrical Apprentice Program where he or she will be proctored by a WSI Electrical Journeyman through Electrical Courses I, II, III, and IV.
  • Applicant must possess proficient Math Skills.
  • Preferred applicants will have a valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to communicate in the English language, comprehending, speaking, reading and writing in English.
