Electrical Controls Technician

Position Overview

A leading manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Technician to join its Plant Engineering team. This role is responsible for supporting manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and automation technologies to maximize equipment reliability and production performance. The Electrical Controls Technician will troubleshoot, maintain, and improve electrical control systems while supporting capital projects, equipment installations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong PLC and industrial controls experience who enjoys both hands-on troubleshooting and long-term equipment improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical control systems supporting manufacturing equipment and facility operations.
  • Program, modify, and optimize PLC and HMI systems to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Assist with plant engineering projects, equipment upgrades, and production line improvements.
  • Diagnose electrical, controls, and automation issues to minimize downtime.
  • Support skilled trades and outside contractors during equipment repairs, installations, and facility projects.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with electrical system modifications, control panel design updates, and documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety standards and applicable electrical codes.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, productivity, and equipment reliability.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field with at least three years of experience supporting manufacturing equipment, automation, or industrial maintenance.

OR

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial equipment, automation systems, and PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to legally work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs.
  • HMI programming experience.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical distribution systems up to 600 volts.
  • AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical experience.
  • Experience with industrial robotics (Motoman or similar robotic systems).
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms such as Wonderware or GE iFIX (Intellution).
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 79 electrical standards.
  • Experience supporting industrial vacuum systems.
  • Previous experience in casting, foundry, or other heavy manufacturing environments is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
