Lead Electrical Design & Planning for Complex Construction Projects

Fountain Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Design & Project Planning Manager to lead our Engineering / Design & Layout team and support the successful execution of commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.

This position is responsible for leading the people, processes, schedules, standards, and quality behind our electrical layout drawings, installation drawings, prefabrication drawings, and design support.

The ideal candidate understands how electrical projects are planned, coordinated, designed, prefabricated, and installed in the field. This role is a great fit for someone with experience in electrical project management, electrical design, BIM/VDC, layout coordination, construction planning, or electrical engineering coordination who enjoys developing teams and improving project execution.

What You'll Do

As the Electrical Design & Project Planning Manager, you will lead the team responsible for providing accurate, timely, and field-ready design support throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead, mentor, train, and develop the Engineering / Design & Layout team
• Assign work based on project schedules, workload, priorities, and team capabilities
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Field Operations, Prefabrication, Procurement, and Project Controls to align design deliverables with project needs
• Review project schedules and establish timing for layout, design, coordination, and prefabrication deliverables
• Monitor deadlines and ensure drawings are completed accurately, consistently, and on schedule
• Review drawings for accuracy, constructability, coordination, completeness, and field usability
• Identify planning gaps, missing information, schedule conflicts, manpower constraints, and project risks before they impact field productivity
• Maintain department standards for drawings, templates, workflows, naming conventions, and quality control
• Support prefabrication efforts by ensuring drawings and information are accurate, complete, and released on time
• Track department workload, schedule performance, quality, and accountability
• Lead department meetings and clearly communicate priorities
• Improve processes, technology, training, and department standards
• Hold team members accountable for quality, deadlines, communication, and continuous improvement

What Makes a Great Fit

We are seeking a practical electrical construction leader who understands the connection between design, planning, coordination, and field execution.

The ideal candidate may come from an electrical project management, electrical design, BIM/VDC, layout coordination, construction planning, or electrical engineering background.

Successful candidates will have:

• Experience in electrical construction, electrical design, BIM/VDC, or layout coordination
• Strong understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, installation methods, schedules, and project sequencing
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, priorities, and team members
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Experience leading, mentoring, or developing teams
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, field leaders, designers, prefab teams, procurement, and company leadership
• Ability to review drawings for accuracy, constructability, completeness, and field usability
• Experience improving workflows, quality control processes, department standards, and accountability

Candidates with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

Electrical Construction Project Management

• 5+ years of electrical construction project management experience
• Experience coordinating schedules, field activities, manpower planning, and project execution
• Experience reviewing drawings, identifying issues, resolving project challenges, and supporting construction planning

Electrical Design / BIM / VDC

• 5+ years of electrical design, BIM, VDC, or layout experience
• Experience developing installation drawings, prefabrication drawings, underground layouts, overhead layouts, in-wall rough-in layouts, electrical room layouts, and coordination drawings
• Experience supporting constructability reviews and field installation planning

Additional experience that is valued:

• Leading design, engineering, BIM/VDC, layout, or project teams
• Strong knowledge of electrical construction means and methods
• Understanding of field sequencing and trade coordination
• Experience using project schedules to drive design, layout, prefabrication, and material planning priorities
• Experience supporting prefabrication and productivity initiatives
• Experience improving workflows, drawing standards, quality control, and accountability processes
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification
• Previous experience as a VDC Manager, BIM Manager, Engineering Manager, Design Manager, or similar department leadership role

Design & Construction Technology Experience

Experience with the following platforms is preferred:

• Revit
• AutoCAD
• Bluebeam
• Navisworks
• Revizto
• BIM/VDC coordination platforms
• Similar construction design and collaboration tools
