Job Description

Join a highly technical engineering team supporting one of the most exciting infrastructure projects in the aerospace industry. As a Power Distribution Engineer, you will help design, install, commission, and expand the electrical power systems that support launch operations at Kennedy Space Center. You will contribute to repurposing and expanding launch infrastructure while developing power systems capable of supporting a rapidly growing launch site, with current systems at approximately 22 MW of demand and future plans requiring significantly larger power distribution capabilities. This role is an excellent opportunity for early-career electrical engineers interested in power systems, industrial facilities, heavy electrical infrastructure, commissioning, and field engineering, with strong emphasis on developing engineers with solid fundamentals in a highly technical environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and implementation of low, medium, and high-voltage power distribution systems for launch and facility operations.
• Assist with the specification and integration of switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, and facility electrical infrastructure.
• Develop electrical distribution solutions for launch pad and facility expansion projects to meet growing power demands.
• Perform electrical load calculations, conductor sizing, equipment selection, and system analysis to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Utilize engineering tools to create one-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and system studies that guide design and construction activities.
• Create detailed work packages and installation instructions for electricians and construction teams to support accurate field execution.
• Support equipment commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and activation activities for new and upgraded electrical systems.
• Coordinate closely with construction, operations, and engineering teams throughout project execution to maintain alignment on scope, schedule, and technical requirements.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously across different design and construction phases, tracking progress and deliverables.
• Participate in field walks, inspections, and installation oversight to verify compliance with design, standards, and safety requirements.
• Track project progress, schedules, and technical deliverables, and communicate status to stakeholders as needed.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience, internship, co-op, or significant academic project work related to power systems, power distribution, industrial electrical systems, utilities, manufacturing facilities, data centers, oil and gas facilities, or heavy industrial operations.
• Solid understanding of electrical distribution fundamentals and principles.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
• Ability to perform electrical load calculations and conductor sizing.
• Understanding of transformers, switchgear, circuit protection, and electrical distribution equipment.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite at Kennedy Space Center.
• Ability to support extended work schedules of approximately 50-60 hours per week.
• Experience or exposure to high-voltage systems and power distribution equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Internship, co-op, or project experience involving power systems, power distribution, or electrical infrastructure.
• Experience commissioning or troubleshooting electrical equipment in industrial or commercial environments.
• Experience working in manufacturing plants, industrial facilities, utilities, refineries, power generation sites, or large commercial facilities.
• Familiarity with medium-voltage and low-voltage systems, including switchgear, transformers, and motor control centers (MCCs).
• Experience developing electrical drawings using AutoCAD.
• Exposure to ETAP or SKM power system modeling software for analysis and studies.
• Hands-on electrical or field installation experience supporting construction or maintenance activities.
• Completion of a design project focused on power systems, power distribution, renewable energy, industrial controls, microgrids, utilities, or electrical infrastructure.

Work Environment

This role is based onsite at Kennedy Space Center within a dynamic launch and industrial infrastructure environment. You will work closely with construction, operations, and engineering teams in both office and field settings, spending time on active job sites, launch pads, and facility spaces. The position involves working with low, medium, and high-voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, and other heavy electrical equipment. You can expect extended work schedules of approximately 50-60 hours per week during peak project phases, with a fast-paced atmosphere that emphasizes safety, collaboration, and technical excellence. The environment supports hands-on field work, commissioning activities, and direct involvement in large-scale infrastructure projects that enable ongoing and future launch operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cocoa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $41.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
