Electrical Engineer - Antenna Systems

What you'll do:

We're looking for a mid-career Electrical Engineer to support the design, integration, and sustaining engineering of antenna systems spanning all frequency bands. This role works under the direction of senior/technical lead engineers. In this role you will contribute independently on core design, documentation, BOM development, and test support tasks. Solid RF fundamentals and a strong electrical design/documentation toolset are what matter most!

The day-to-day:

Electrical Design & Documentation

• Develop and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness/interconnect documentation using EPLAN, DraftSight, and/or Visio.
• Apply Design for Excellence (DFX) principles, including DFM and DFT
• Apply established design standards, review checklists, and documentation practices to new and sustaining designs.
• Participate in design reviews and support resolution of design issues identified during review or test.

Systems & Project Engineer Fundamentals

• Apply working knowledge of RF/antenna fundamentals (EIRP, G/T, sidelobes, linearity, noise figure, gain, VSWR) to support design architecture and drive program commonality.
• Identify and support requirement flow-downs from system to subsystem/LRU level and help maintain traceability records.
• Help select appropriate test approaches and equipment for characterizing RF performance.

• Support cost/schedule estimate development for proposals and sustaining engineering tasks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with manufacturing and supply chain to support BOM structure, part data integrity, quality control, and configuration control.
• Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities alongside program leadership.
• Actively participate in vGate meetings to ensure program success and handoff to other engineering disciplines as required, e.g. Test Engineering.
• Attend and actively participate in customer meetings as a part of program leadership, when required.
• Identify quality concerns and escalate appropriately to ensure suppliers and internal groups are held in compliance. 
• Assist in evaluating and adopting engineering automation and toolchain improvements (e.g., EPLAN workflows, traceability tools, QA checks) introduced by technical leads.

What you'll need:

• 4+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, RF/antenna systems, or related product design.
• BS in Electrical Engineering, Antenna Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Working knowledge of RF and satellite communications principles and how they translate to product requirements.
• Hands-on proficiency with Siemens NX, EPLAN, DraftSight, and/or Visio (please indicate which tools you've used and at what depth).
• Familiarity with RF hardware and integration elements: SSPA, TWTA, TLT, LNA, LNB, ACU, waveguide, cabling, filters, power dividers, terminations, etc.
• Exposure to antenna test S parameters, and test equipment (VNA, signal generators, Spectrum analyzers).
• Basic understanding of regulatory/compliance frameworks (UL, NEC, IEC, FCC, ETSI, ITU) is a plus, not required.
• Strong documentation habits, attention to detail, and clear technical communication.
• Comfortable working across hardware/test/manufacturing boundaries to troubleshoot issues.
• Must be able to work out of the Duluth, GA office 
• Ability to support up to ~10–15% travel.
• US Citizenship required.

• Must be able to obtain a United States Secret Clearance

   

What will help you on the job:

• Prior exposure to phased array or multi-band antenna systems.
• Experience supporting design-for-manufacture reviews or supplier technical evaluations.
• Interest in engineering automation/toolchain modernization (schematic linting, traceability tools, BOM normalization).

Salary range: $120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually  : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
