Electrical Engineer

Location: Berlin, CT

Onsite Flexibility: Onsite (candidates may commute from Connecticut or New Hampshire)

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 24 months (with potential for extension or conversion to permanent)
  • Pay Rate: $50.00 $65.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Travel Requirements: Travel required could be twice a week. Position will support multiple sites throughout MA (as far west as Ludlow, as far north as Lawrence, as far east as Marshfield), with one location in Waterbury, CT. Mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

This position supports the Client Engineering & Technical Services group by providing design review, development of specifications, and overall support of plant electrical, instrumentation, and controls projects. This individual will be expected to have a high level of knowledge of plant systems. Working with related discipline engineers, the electrical engineer will provide guidance on how to best select and integrate new equipment into the plant. The electrical engineer will also be responsible for managing their own projects related to their field of discipline. The individual will participate in the review of vendor documents, providing comments, markups, and ensuring the project's requirements are being met and comply with all applicable codes and standards. The position is multi-faceted with responsibilities that will vary dependent on the projects' needs. The electrical engineer functionally reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in project meetings, staying informed of project status and actively supporting the project's technical needs as the instrumentation, controls, and electrical subject matter expert.
  • Supports the company's client facilities as necessary to troubleshoot problems related to installed systems.
  • Assists project managers and other engineers in the successful implementation of projects including supporting the planning, execution, development, engineering, and management of capital projects.
  • Ensures all work is performed in accordance with NFPA 59A, 70E, 40 CFR 193, Article 500 of the NEC, and all other applicable codes and standards.
  • Assists in the development of project budgets, estimates project costs, prepares bid specifications, performs equipment analysis and selection.
  • Responds to submittals and RFIs, allowing for their timely response.
  • Supports the development of new process and equipment procedures.
  • Records information to ensure the project is appropriately documented for future regulatory review.
  • Identifies and documents lessons learned for their use in future projects.
  • Responsible for the execution of projects related to low and medium voltage power systems, controls systems, security systems, instrumentation, and other industrial plant-related electrical projects.
  • Helps to ensure the projects meet pre-determined objectives concerning quality, adherence to technical specifications, reliability, schedule, and budget.
  • Obtains, oversees, integrates, and coordinates internal and external resources necessary to ensure materials, equipment, and services are delivered on time.
  • Directly supporting responses to submittals, RFIs, the review of schedules, and change orders, and will assist in providing on-site construction support.

Required Skills

  • Experience working as part of an engineering, maintenance, technology, or construction project team in support of power, manufacturing, or process plant construction and maintenance.
  • Must deal with short time frames and handle multiple competing priorities.
  • Must be independently motivated and able to work without detailed direction.
  • Must support on-site construction activities, monitoring quality and providing feedback.
  • Must have a strong ability to interpret drawings and other technical documents.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the technical principles of AC and DC power, hazardous area classifications, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, motors, UPS systems, instrumentation, fiber optics, analog and digital controls and systems, and other engineering skills as they relate to process plants.
  • Very strong organization practices.
  • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, effectively interfacing with stakeholders.
  • Must be able to perform basic calculations to confirm sizing of equipment and conductors.
  • Skilled with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
  • High level of knowledge of plant systems including: electrical switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, transmitters, and PLC and DCS systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Client/LNG experience would be a huge plus.
  • Experience in oil and gas is a plus.
  • Power plant background is preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Associate's degree or higher required.

Required Experience

  • 8 10 years of experience required.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Travel required up to twice a week to support multiple sites throughout Massachusetts and one location in Waterbury, CT. Mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Position operates in both field and office settings.
