Job Description

This entry-level Electrical Engineer role supports the design and analysis of electrical distribution systems under close supervision. You will apply basic engineering principles, follow established standards and procedures, and contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies. The position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills, gain exposure to project coordination, and support continuous improvement initiatives while working closely with project teams and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine aspects of electrical engineering assignments under close supervision, applying basic engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of less complex engineering deliverables, including drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
  • Conduct routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection for electrical distribution projects.
  • Collect, assimilate, and manage data required to support engineering work and project analyses.
  • Prepare basic engineering calculations using standard methods and principles commonly applied in similar engineering analyses.
  • Read, understand, and apply departmental design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes to assigned work.
  • Understand and adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements while executing assigned tasks.
  • Support the application of the quality program and participate in continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Share project information with team members as requested to support coordination and alignment.
  • Coordinate with others when directed by supervisors or project leadership to ensure effective project execution.
  • Support internal clients, such as project team leadership, by focusing on their needs and gaining a basic understanding of external client interests and drivers.
  • Perform initial technical screens and review application packages for completeness and accuracy related to distribution system projects.
  • Compare submitted documentation against utility databases to verify consistency and accuracy.
  • Develop clear written communications independently and facilitate coordination with team members and clients.
  • Work cooperatively in a team environment to achieve project goals and support business development or pursuit activities as requested.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time to support project and job functions as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 0-1 years of experience in electrical distribution engineering or related distribution work.
  • Understanding of basic distribution system design concepts.
  • Ability to perform initial technical screens and review application packages for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ability to compare submitted documentation against utility databases.
  • Ability to independently develop clear and professional written communications.
  • Ability to facilitate coordination with team members and clients.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software products.
  • Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD for electrical design and drafting.
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles and their application to distribution systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards, departmental design guides, and applicable engineering codes.
  • Interest in supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Ability to manage data for engineering work and perform basic engineering calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail in reviewing technical documentation and ensuring accuracy.
  • Interest in supporting business development or pursuit activities when needed.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% to support project needs.

Work Environment

This role supports projects in a professional engineering office environment focused on electrical distribution systems. You will work primarily with standard office technologies and software tools, including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, to produce engineering deliverables and manage project data. The position requires living within 50 miles of an office location in either Flint, Michigan or Cary, and may involve up to 25% travel to project sites or other offices. You will collaborate closely with project leadership and team members in a cooperative, team-oriented setting that emphasizes adherence to established engineering standards, quality programs, and project schedules and budgets.

This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $31.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
