Electrical Engineer - Circuit Design (Intermediate Level)
Location: Franklin, MA

Overview
We are seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of electrical systems and circuit boards for automation and industrial applications. This role focuses on schematic design, component selection, and system‑level electrical engineering, working closely with cross‑functional teams, manufacturing partners, and service organizations.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys hands‑on electrical design, documentation, and problem‑solving in a practical, production‑oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Generate circuit board schematics using Cadence OrCAD or comparable ECAD tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics, Altium)
Apply engineering fundamentals to digital, analog, and mixed‑signal circuit design
Select and size electrical components, including:
Transformers and power supplies
Automation and motion components (stepper motors, linear motors, drives, encoders)
Industrial controls and devices (relays, contactors, alarms, sensors, switches)
Pneumatic and air control components
Vision systems, barcode readers, networking, and communication devices
Define PCB layout requirements for external vendors and review layout outputs (layout design not required)
Evaluate systems to determine electrical and power requirements
Select and validate components to meet system, regulatory, and environmental requirements
Use computer‑aided engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD) for electrical design activities
Prepare engineering documentation for handoff to manufacturing
Troubleshoot power distribution and fieldbus communication issues
Source replacement components for obsolete or discontinued electronics
Support internal service and field teams as needed
Provide design quality assurance and technical support for ongoing projects
Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in electrical engineering
Required Qualifications
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Skills
Experience with SolidWorks Electrical for schematics and wiring diagrams
Knowledge of fieldbus and industrial communication protocols, including:
RS‑485 / Modbus
ProfiNET
EtherCAT / TwinCAT
CAN / CANopen
Experience with ELMO motor drives
Exposure to Verilog/VHDL for FPGA/CPLD debugging
Understanding of environmental sensors:
Thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors
Humidity and oxygen sensors (4-20 mA or analog voltage)
Refrigeration or similar control system experience
Familiarity with electrical enclosure standards and certifications:
CE, UL, CSA, NEMA ratings
Knowledge of batteries, safety standards, and electrical hazards
