Overview:

VIRGINIA Class Construction Support Engineer – Electrical 

 

Department 460 Waterfront Engineering at Quonset Point is seeking a highly motivated candidate to provide technical leadership for electrical construction activities for VIRGINIA Class. D460 is responsible for the resolution of design issues, trouble-shooting of construction problems, technical support for manufacturing operations, verification and certification of as-built dimensions and configurations, and implementation of process improvements. 

 

The department’s main goal is to provide timely, high quality technical leadership for all electrical manufacturing activities at the Quonset Point facility. In addition, engineers in D460 are exposed to various aspects of submarine design and construction which provides opportunities for continuous growth, leadership, and advancement as an engineer.Individuals selected for this position will be providing systems technical support for submarine construction activities for VIRGINIA Class submarines at the EBQP facility.

 

This position requires continued progression of technical and project management skills. The successful candidate is expected to help manage construction issues throughout the EBQP facility, and be able to communicate engineering assessments with Operations/Trades, Planning, and ship’s management organizations. They are also expected to relay shipyard priorities to appropriate engineering groups.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
• 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance

Preferred:

• Previous experience with the design, development, construction, and/or operation of submarine systems, components, or structures
• Familiarity with Electronic Desktop, Team Center and JCALs.
• Experience with providing deck-plate engineering construction support
• Experience dispositioning Engineering Reports or Change Notices

Skills:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Experience with trouble-shooting and technical problem solving.
• Experience with task or project management.
• Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Candidate must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment.
• This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces.
