Electrical Engineer / Life Safety Engineer

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Life Safety Engineer to join our client's on-site engineering team in Boise, Idaho. This role will support the design, development, and implementation of life safety systems for complex industrial and high-tech facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience designing fire alarm and detection systems, gas detection systems, smoke control systems, and related life safety infrastructure while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and operational requirements. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams on challenging and technically advanced projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer fire alarm, detection, suppression, gas detection, smoke control, and related life safety systems
  • Support all phases of the project lifecycle from conceptual design through construction and startup
  • Apply applicable codes and standards including IBC, IFC, NFPA, NEC, and Life Safety Codes to develop compliant designs
  • Prepare calculations, equipment sizing, system layouts, specifications, and construction documentation
  • Develop and review BIM models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP in coordination with architects and other engineering disciplines
  • Support Engineer of Record responsibilities and progressively take ownership of technical scope for assigned projects
  • Coordinate directly with clients, vendors, contractors, and code officials
  • Review vendor submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements and specifications
  • Participate in design reviews and maintain technical quality standards throughout project execution
  • Provide field support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities as required
  • Manage multiple assignments while meeting schedule, scope, and quality expectations
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and mentor junior engineering staff
  • Support compliance with safety, operational, and regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • EIT certification or NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fire alarm and life safety systems engineering
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • IBC
    • IFC
    • NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code
    • NFPA 101 Life Safety Code
    • NFPA 70 (NEC)
  • Experience designing or supporting fire alarm and detection systems, including VESDA or similar aspirating systems
  • Understanding of construction documents, specifications, and multidisciplinary coordination processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with additional NFPA standards including NFPA 13, 75, 76, 2001, and 400
  • Familiarity with Edwards EST3 and EST4 Fire Alarm Control Systems
  • Experience reviewing vendor submittals against client requirements and specifications
  • Experience with gas detection systems, HPM systems, leak detection, smoke modeling, or fire dynamics concepts
  • Experience with security, CCTV, or low-voltage systems
  • Field experience working with subcontractors and construction personnel
  • Experience supporting semiconductor fabrication facilities or other high-tech manufacturing environments
