This role involves providing strong technical expertise to support interdepartmental collaboration, oversee the development of electrical standards, and guide the successful execution of electrification design and maintenance programs.Primary/Essential Responsibilities and DutiesPrepare and review designs for advanced rail-transit electrification projects.Evaluate engineering designs prepared by outside consultants for accuracy and compliance.Provide technical expertise to internal departments and construction personnel.Conduct field inspections to support engineering decisions and ensure constructability.Assist in the development and implementation of updated electrical standards.Track and report on project status, including budgeting, forecasting, and scheduling.Perform field audits to ensure compliance with established engineering practices and policies.Perform detailed engineering design reviews and quality assurance on assigned projects.Required Skills and QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience/education)5+ years of experience in railroad electric traction systems, including substation design, frequency converters, protection relays, and high‑voltage circuit breakers and transformersSkilled in the design, operation, and maintenance of traction power or utility substationsStrong knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems and related equipmentProficient in reading, interpreting, and producing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings for substation protection and control systemsProficiency in AutoCAD design softwareFamiliar with CAD software such as Bentley/MicroStation, REVIT, SolidWorks, or similar platformsExperience with logic programming (e.g., PLCs and microprocessor relays)Familiarity with project management and design workflow tools, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ProcoreAbility to perform and direct troubleshooting of substation equipment and control systemsStrong technical writing ability for reports, documentation, and design recordsExperience with CTDOT, Metro‑North, Amtrak, MBTA, and knowledge of the Amtrak Northeast Corridor in NYCFamiliar with design‑build projectsEffective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a teamHighly organized with strong time management capabilitiesPhysically able to navigate construction sites (standing, climbing, stooping, crouching)Willingness to work outdoors and conduct field surveysComfortable in all weather conditions and high‑noise environmentsRecommended certifications:Amtrak Track TrainingCSX Track TrainingMTA Track TrainingOSHA 30Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsWorks indoors in an office environmentOccasionally works outdoors at construction sitesFrequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under constructionSits, reads, writes and uses a keyboardMay be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weatherMay be exposed to loud noiseRole requires air and vehicular travel at various timesFooter – EEOThis job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, or skills required for the position.
