Location: Hybrid in Tempe, AZ with the option to be remote
Salary: $150-180k depending on experience
Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE) to lead electrical design, analysis, and commissioning for industrial and municipal projects with emphasis on power distribution, water/wastewater facilities, and safety-compliant systems. The role requires technical leadership on low- and medium-voltage systems, development of drawings and specifications, performance of power system and arc-flash studies, and ensuring designs meet NEC and applicable NFPA codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design for low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, switchgear, and motor control centers.
- Develop and deliver Single Line Diagrams, panel schedules, circuit load summaries, conduit and wire-sizing calculations, and circuit breaker selection.
- Perform power system studies, short-circuit, coordination and protective device analysis, and arc-flash studies using SKM or equivalent software.
- Prepare detailed AutoCAD Electrical drawings and P&IDs, and produce construction documents, specifications and cost estimates.
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, NFPA 820 and other applicable codes and client standards.
- Provide construction support, site visits, commissioning oversight, and troubleshooting during installation and start-up.
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, process, and controls teams to integrate electrical systems into overall project designs.
- Prepare technical reports, deliverables, and client-facing documentation; present findings and design decisions to clients and stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and drafters, review design work for quality control, and contribute to project scheduling and budgeting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 3+ years of progressive electrical design experience, with demonstrated work on low- and medium-voltage systems and power distribution.
- Hands-on experience with Single Line Diagrams, panel schedules, conduit and wire sizing, circuit load summaries, and circuit breaker sizing.
- Proficiency with SKM (or similar) for arc-flash and coordination studies, and experience performing power system studies.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 101, NFPA 820 and other relevant codes and standards.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD; familiarity with P&IDs and integration into electrical designs.
- Experience designing for Water and Wastewater facilities is highly desirable.
