Description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This local remote opportunity seeks an Electrical Engineer to collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team in developing building engineering design solutions that align with project context, budget, and aesthetic goals. The role involves interpreting design intent, producing efficient and effective technical solutions, and coordinating electrical building systems through all phases of a project. You will work closely with other professional disciplines and apply your knowledge of building engineering systems, materials, codes, and construction technologies to deliver high-quality designs for a variety of building types.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical components of overall building projects, integrating architectural design while adhering to applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Evaluate engineering design requirements and prepare detailed drawings and documentation to support construction projects.
  • Perform core engineering activities, including electrical load and system calculations, code research, material and building systems research, layout of components, and calculation of program and building areas.
  • Assess site conditions, including zoning requirements and physical site constraints, and conduct site surveys and field reviews to accurately document existing and new construction conditions.
  • Synthesize, interpret, and coordinate technical information to develop clear and comprehensive electrical engineering specifications for project manuals.
  • Review project products, services, and shop drawings to confirm adherence to project documents, relevant jurisdictional codes, and internal quality control standards.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other team members to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other building systems.
  • Work both independently and as part of a tight-knit, collaborative team, managing your own workload and contributing to project delivery across multiple locations.
  • Participate in both in-house and out-of-house project work, supporting a national team and coordinating with colleagues across different regions.

Essential Skills

  • 3-10 years of project work experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on building systems.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing electrical engineering building systems across multiple building types.
  • Proficiency with engineering software tools, including AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical engineering systems design software used for building power distribution, lighting, and related systems.
  • Strong engineering knowledge related to building electrical systems, including power, lighting, and auxiliary systems for various building types.
  • Familiarity with architectural design concepts and the ability to integrate electrical systems with architectural intent.
  • Solid understanding of building codes and jurisdictional requirements relevant to electrical building systems.
  • Ability to perform detailed engineering calculations and interpret zoning and code information.
  • Capability to read, produce, and coordinate technical drawings and specifications with accuracy and attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on multidisciplinary building design projects alongside architects and other engineering disciplines.
  • Comfort working both independently and within a collaborative, tight-knit team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate technical information and requirements across a national project team.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a flexible work setting.
  • Experience conducting site surveys and field reviews for building projects.
  • Interest in contributing to design solutions that support people and the planet through thoughtful building engineering.
  • Adaptability to work on projects across various market sectors and geographic regions.

Work Environment

The role is structured as a fully remote position with the expectation that you are local enough to conduct periodic site visits when required. You may choose to work on-site as much or as little as you prefer, with a national team of approximately 40 professionals across Canada and the United States, including a small local group. The culture emphasizes a tight, collaborative team where people get along well, value good teamwork, and maintain high expectations for independent work. Core local hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing flexibility to choose your remaining working hours around these core times. Work is highly autonomous, with a mix of in-house and out-of-house project assignments, and you will use industry-standard tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical engineering design software in a modern, professional engineering environment.
