Electrical Engineer (Power Systems / Transmission)
Buffalo, NY (100 Katherine St) or White Plains, NY
Pay rate: $60/hr W2
12 Months with possibility of extension/conversion to perm
Hybrid (Minimum 3 Days Onsite)
Candidates must be able to work onsite at least 3 days per week.
Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the System Interconnection/System Planning Team in the conceptual engineering design of new generation, transmission, and interconnection projects. This role will support System Impact Studies, Facility Studies, and transmission planning activities while coordinating with internal stakeholders, developers, engineering firms, and the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO).
Responsibilities
- Support conceptual engineering design activities for System Impact Studies and Facility Studies related to new generation, load, and transmission interconnection projects.
- Coordinate with developers to review engineering designs and technical specifications for compliance with NYPA standards.
- Collaborate with NYISO, engineering consultants, developers, and internal stakeholders throughout the interconnection process.
- Support the development and execution of Interconnection Agreements, Facility Study Agreements, NDAs, and cost-reimbursable agreements.
- Coordinate with Environmental, Legal, Transmission Planning, Transmission Operations, Site Engineering, and Strategic Supply Management teams.
- Develop and maintain responsibility matrices, project requests, WBS codes, and cost tracking documentation.
- Review Feasibility Study (FES) and System Reliability Impact Study (SRIS) scopes and reports.
- Interpret power system analysis results from PSS®E (PSSE) or TARA simulations.
- Provide engineering support by reviewing drawings, standards, and transmission asset information.
- Support project management activities and ensure project deliverables are completed on schedule.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in high-voltage substation and transmission line engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of project management experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical transmission systems and power system engineering.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, matrixed environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with the NYISO Interconnection Process.
- Experience supporting System Impact Studies (SIS), Facility Studies, or transmission planning.
- Experience with renewable energy interconnection projects.
- Experience using PSS®E (PSSE) or TARA for power flow and transient stability studies.
- Knowledge of transmission planning, interconnection agreements, and utility engineering standards.
- New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
