We are looking for a motivated R&D Electrical Engineer at our Hackettstown, NJ location with a flexible hybrid schedule, who is excited about power electronics, digital control, and turning innovative concepts into working hardware on our Research & Development Team.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity where you will contribute to the development of advanced switch-mode power supplies, digital control systems, and high-performance power conversion technologies. You'll work across simulation, circuit design, embedded firmware, prototyping, laboratory testing, and troubleshooting while collaborating with experienced engineers on challenging real-world applications.

What You'll Do

Design & Develop Advanced Power Electronics

• Design, prototype, and evaluate switch-mode power converters, including PFC, resonant LLC, phase-shifted full-bridge, buck, and boost topologies.
• Contribute to power architecture, circuit design, component selection, and design optimization.
• Develop high-reliability power conversion solutions for demanding industrial, medical, aerospace, and defense applications.

Develop Digital Power Control

• Implement real-time digital control loops for switch-mode power stages using Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers.
• Develop and test C/C++ firmware using TI C2000 peripherals, including ePWM, Type IV PWM, CMPSS, and high-speed ADCs.
• Optimize control-loop performance, transient response, stability, and protection functions.

Model, Simulate & Analyze

• Model power converters and closed-loop control systems using SIMPLIS, SIMetrix, QSpice, or comparable simulation tools.
• Perform transient analysis, AC sweeps, control-loop stability analysis, and frequency-response evaluation.
• Validate continuous-to-discrete control-loop transitions and use simulation results to guide hardware development.

Build, Test & Troubleshoot

• Take designs from simulation and schematic through prototype development and laboratory validation.
• Conduct electrical, thermal, efficiency, stress, and reliability testing.
• Troubleshoot complex power conversion and control issues using oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power analyzers, network analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
• Analyze test results and translate findings into practical design improvements.

Work with Advanced Power Technologies

• Support gate-driver design and switching-stage optimization.
• Evaluate switching losses and performance of MOSFET, SiC, and GaN power devices.
• Consider high-frequency magnetics, PCB layout, parasitics, thermal management, and EMI as part of the overall design.

Support Design Verification & Compliance

• Participate in design verification, EMI/EMC troubleshooting, and product qualification activities.
• Support testing and documentation for applicable industrial, medical, military, and aerospace requirements, including MIL-STD-461 and UL/IEC 62368.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to advance designs toward production.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics is a plus.
• 2-5 years of hands-on experience in switch-mode power supply design, power electronics, and/or digital control.
• Practical experience with Texas Instruments C2000 microcontrollers, including Code Composer Studio and C2000Ware.
• Solid understanding of classical and digital control concepts, including peak current mode, average current mode, and voltage mode control.
• Experience modeling power converters and closed-loop control systems using SIMPLIS, SIMetrix, QSpice, or comparable tools.
• Familiarity with high-frequency magnetic components, including inductors and transformers.
• Understanding of PCB layout considerations for high-frequency power electronics.
• Strong laboratory troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and work collaboratively in a cross-functional engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SiC and/or GaN wide-bandgap semiconductors.
• Experience with high-voltage power conversion topologies.
• Proficiency with Cadence OrCAD Capture / Allegro PCB Editor or comparable schematic and PCB design tools.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing or rapid prototyping platforms.
• Experience with EMI/EMC testing and troubleshooting.
• Experience developing power supplies for regulated, safety-critical, medical, aerospace, or defense applications.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $95,000 - $120,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, skills, and other relevant considerations.
