Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, analyze, and validate advanced battery and energy storage systems, with a strong focus on Battery Management Systems (BMS), power distribution, and system-level integration. You will contribute to the development of cutting-edge unmanned maritime solutions and complex electrical power systems, working across the full lifecycle from concept and modeling through hardware design, testing, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize battery systems and energy storage systems for complex electrical and maritime applications.
  • Develop, configure, and refine Battery Management Systems (BMS), including charging and discharging controls and protection strategies.
  • Perform circuit card and PCB design for digital and power electronics hardware, ensuring robust, reliable, and manufacturable solutions.
  • Conduct hardware troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical and electronic assemblies, identifying and resolving issues at component, board, and system levels.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, circuit designs, and power distribution architectures to meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
  • Perform system modeling and simulation to predict performance, validate design concepts, and support trade studies for energy and power systems.
  • Plan and execute testing and validation activities for electrical systems, including test procedures, data analysis, and verification against requirements.
  • Conduct electrical system analysis for single-phase and three-phase/polyphase power systems, including load flow, fault analysis, and protection coordination as applicable.
  • Support power supplies and power distribution system design, integration, and verification for complex platforms and systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, systems, and software engineers, to integrate electrical designs into larger systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, test reports, and engineering change documentation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design practices, tools, and processes for electrical design and power systems engineering.
  • Provide technical input on maritime or naval power systems, shipboard electrical power plants, vessel power distribution systems, and marine energy storage integration when applicable.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer working on battery systems and energy storage systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS), including battery charging and discharging control strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in circuit card and PCB design for electrical and electronic hardware.
  • Proficiency in hardware troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical and electronic systems.
  • Experience with system modeling and simulation for electrical and power systems.
  • Background in testing and validation of electrical systems, including development and execution of test plans.
  • Competence in electrical system analysis, including power distribution and circuit design.
  • Technical proficiency in electrical engineering and electrical design engineering.
  • Experience with lithium battery technologies and battery management.
  • Skills in schematic capture, hardware design, and PCB design for digital and power electronics.
  • Knowledge of power distribution and power systems engineering, including single-phase and three-phase/polyphase systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with power supplies and power distribution architectures.
  • Background in power systems engineering for complex platforms.
  • Maritime or naval power experience, including shipboard electrical power plants, is highly desired.
  • Experience with vessel power distribution systems and marine energy storage integration is a strong differentiator.
  • Familiarity with digital electronics and power electronics design.
  • Ability to work across the full lifecycle of electrical systems, from concept and modeling through design, testing, and sustainment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Work Environment

This role is part of a business group focused on unmanned systems, with an emphasis on advanced unmanned maritime solutions for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. The environment involves working on unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned surface vessels, covering design, autonomy, manufacturing, testing, operations, and sustainment. You will work within a large, mission-driven engineering and technologies organization that supports complex, networked, all-domain solutions. The setting is highly technical and collaborative, with access to modern engineering tools, system modeling and simulation environments, and test facilities for electrical and power systems. The culture emphasizes innovation, reliability, and support of critical national and global missions, with a skilled workforce and opportunities to engage in advanced electrical and power system challenges.
