Job Summary
Our client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer with an active Professional Engineer (PE) with experience in design and construction administration for our downtown Roanoke office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and managing electrical engineering projects for commercial, industrial, institutional, or residential facilities. This role requires strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and experience ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and review electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, emergency power, and low-voltage systems.
- Prepare and seal engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, local building codes, and industry standards.
- Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash studies, and energy code compliance reviews.
- Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, project managers, and clients throughout all project phases.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and construction documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Conduct site visits, field inspections, and assessments to evaluate existing electrical systems and project progress.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and CAD/Revit staff.
- Support project budgeting, scheduling, permitting, and client communication.
- Identify potential design issues and recommend cost-effective, code-compliant solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Active Professional Engineer license required.
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of electrical design for building systems, construction documents, and code compliance.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, ETAP, Easy Power, or similar design/analysis software preferred.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, government, or multi-family projects is a plus.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Skills
- Experience leading engineering design projects from concept through construction.
- Familiarity with sustainable design, energy efficiency, and LEED principles.
- Ability to develop client relationships and support business development efforts.
