Position Summary
The Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a team of Electrical Engineers focused on low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems, controls integration, and industrial electrical infrastructure. This role combines technical leadership, team management, and project oversight, ensuring all designs meet Miller standards for safety, quality, and performance.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in electrical system design, strong knowledge of NFPA and UL standards, and proven leadership experience managing engineering teams delivering complex industrial projects.
 
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Electrical Engineers and Controls Engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance, design oversight, and professional development for team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, training plans, and career development initiatives.
  • Establish engineering best practices, standards, and workflows across the team.
Engineering Oversight & Technical Excellence
  • Oversee the design and execution of low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems (120V to 15kV).
  • Ensure high-quality engineering deliverables, including:
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Load calculations and coordination studies
    • Panel schedules and equipment layouts
  • Provide subject matter expertise in:
    • NEMA equipment (switchgear, MCCs, panelboards)
    • VFDs, motor control, and power electronics
    • Protection systems and grounding
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, studies, and system designs.
Controls & Systems Integration
  • Oversee integration of PLC-based control systems, automation, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between electrical infrastructure and mechanical systems.
  • Guide development of control panels, I/O architectures, and control strategies.
Codes, Standards & Compliance
  • Ensure all designs comply with:
    • NFPA 70 (NEC)
    • NFPA 70B (Electrical Maintenance)
    • NFPA 70E (Arc Flash & Safety)
    • Applicable UL standards
  • Establish internal compliance processes and quality assurance reviews.
  • Support development of arc flash studies, labeling programs, and safety documentation.
Project Execution & Delivery
  • Partner with project managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and within scope.
  • Review project schedules, resource allocation, and engineering milestones.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical challenges and risk mitigation.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and system startup activities when required.
Simulation & Analysis
  • Ensure proper use of electrical modeling tools such as ETAP or SKM PowerTools.
  • Oversee system studies including:
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Arc flash studies
    • Protective device coordination
    • Load flow modeling
Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, fabrication, and field teams to ensure integrated system designs.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and clients to validate specifications and design intent.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and proposal development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7–15+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with increasing leadership responsibility.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Low‑ and medium‑voltage power systems
    • NEMA equipment, VFDs, MCCs, and switchgear
    • Industrial electrical system design
  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 70, 70B, 70E, and UL standards.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing project deliverables.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with ETAP or SKM PowerTools for system modeling and arc flash analysis.
  • Background in industrial facilities, central utility plants, or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Experience in controls engineering, PLCs, automation systems, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
