Location: Louisville, Colorado, conveniently located in the Boulder/Denver metro area. We offer a flexible hybrid work environment with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Note: Candidates must have 3+ years of patent prosecution experience, active USPTO registration, an active attorney bar license, and a genuine Electrical Engineering background. Colorado bar admission or the ability to obtain admission promptly is preferred.

Job Description

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications involving electrical engineering, computer engineering, software, semiconductors, and communications technologies
  • Take ownership of day-to-day management of a significant, established client relationship as experience allows
  • Develop patent prosecution strategies and manage sophisticated intellectual property portfolios
  • Collaborate directly with inventors, engineers, executives, and in-house counsel
  • Provide practical patent counseling and strategic guidance on intellectual property protection
  • Manage client communications, deadlines, and complex prosecution workflows
  • Build long-term client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives
  • Collaborate with experienced attorneys while developing greater independence and leadership responsibilities
  • Pursue a defined partnership track with opportunities for long-term advancement

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of substantive patent preparation and prosecution experience
  • Active USPTO registration and attorney bar license
  • Strong Electrical Engineering background, including meaningful experience with EE-related patent matters
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience with patent drafting, prosecution strategy, and portfolio management
  • Strong communication skills and an interest in developing direct client relationships
  • Colorado bar admission or ability to obtain admission promptly preferred
  • Large law firm or established IP boutique experience preferred
  • Senior associates, in-house attorneys, and qualified solo practitioners are encouraged to apply

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $200,000 to $275,000, depending on experience and billing volume
  • Client management credit: $42,000 annually for managing the established client relationship
  • Production-based compensation: 45% to 50% of collections on matters worked, with no cap
  • Significant origination credit on new client business
  • Discretionary annual bonus, typically exceeding $15,000
  • Approximately 1,200 to 1,500 annual billable hours

  • Salary Bands (Only if attorney role): 
  • 3+ to 4 years: $180K to $205K; 
  • 5+ to 6 years: $205K to $230K; 
  • 7+ years / strong client management: $230K to $250K base, with additional incentive potential
