At Converse, we're looking for a detail-oriented, relationship-driven electrical construction professional to join our team as an Electrical Estimator. This role goes beyond preparing bids: you'll help identify the right opportunities, develop competitive and accurate proposals, and build the customer relationships that support long-term growth.
As our Electrical Estimator, you'll evaluate commercial electrical projects from initial opportunity through bid submission and turnover. You'll partner with our Chief Sales Officer, Operations, Project Managers, field leaders, vendors, and customers to develop thoughtful estimates that balance scope, risk, competitiveness, and profitability.
With more than 65 years of excellence in the electrical industry, Converse Electric offers stability, opportunity, and a culture built on teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
What You'll Do
Estimating and Bid Development
• Review drawings, specifications, addenda, schedules, and bid documents to understand complete electrical project scope.
• Prepare accurate material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates for commercial electrical construction opportunities.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, evaluate installation methods, and develop competitive pricing using estimating software.
• Prepare clear, professional proposals that identify scope, assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, alternates, and clarifications.
• Manage bid deadlines, document revisions, and maintain organized, accurate estimating records.
Preconstruction, Risk and Profitability
• Identify constructability concerns, scope gaps, design conflicts, schedule constraints, and financial risks before bids are submitted.
• Review bid documents and proposed contract terms; elevate exceptions and commercial risks to leadership.
• Coordinate vendor and subcontractor quotations; evaluate coverage, pricing, lead times, and qualifications.
• Partner with Operations to validate labor assumptions, project approach, prefabrication opportunities, and project handoff needs.
• Support post-bid reviews, value engineering, scope negotiations, and estimate-to-budget turnover for awarded work.
Customer Relationships and Business Development
• Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and industry partners.
• Partner with the CSO to identify qualified opportunities, strengthen existing accounts, and develop new business relationships.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, customer discussions, and bid follow-up as needed.
• Monitor Central Ohio construction market trends, upcoming projects, and competitive conditions to inform bid strategy.
Collaboration, Reporting and Continuous Improvement
• Collaborate with Sales, Project Executives, Project Managers, field leadership, Pre-Fab, and Accounting to align estimates with execution realities.
• Maintain estimating pipeline, bid tracking, proposal documentation, and reporting accuracy.
• Participate in bid reviews and lessons-learned discussions; use historical project performance to improve future estimates.
• Stay current on estimating technology, electrical codes, material pricing, and construction methods; recommend process improvements.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
• Commercial electrical estimating experience and five (5) or more years of commercial electrical field experience or comparable industry experience.
• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical construction methods, drawings, and specifications.
• Proficiency with electrical estimating software and the ability to perform detailed takeoffs and develop complete proposals.
• Ability to interpret construction contracts, identify bid risks, and communicate scope assumptions clearly.
• Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to maintain accurate estimating reports and records.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Accubid electrical estimating software.
• Experience with CAD/BIM and ERP systems, including Spectrum/Viewpoint or comparable platforms.
• Experience improving or automating estimating processes and supporting business development.
• Ability to influence decisions, challenge assumptions constructively, and drive results.
