Shape the future of steel — one circuit at a time

One application covers all three Mon Valley Works locations: Clairton Works, Irvin Works, and Edgar Thomson Works.

Picture your day starting with a handoff from the previous shift. You scan schematics, review PLC fault logs, and gear up. In one hour you’re diagnosing an AC drive issue on a line; the next, you’re wiring a new sensor bank and verifying signals back to the PLC. By mid-shift, you’re assisting operations to safely bring a mill stand back online using pendant and overhead cranes. Before you wrap, you button up preventive maintenance and document your work — all so production can run without a hitch.

What you’ll take on

  • Troubleshoot, install, maintain, and repair a wide range of electrical/electronic systems using schematics, AC/DC theory, and PLCs.
  • Support production as needed to restore and sustain operations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision or team up with other technicians as the job demands.
  • Operate and interface with mobile equipment, pendant and overhead cranes, and forklifts as part of maintenance tasks.
  • Adapt to varied plant areas and conditions — hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy — while keeping safety first.

What you’ll need

  • At least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience (including relevant military experience) or equivalent education in areas such as industrial electronics, motors/controls, schematics and electrical power, print reading, computers and PLCs, AC/DC theory, power, instrumentation and test instruments, electrical maintenance, or commercial electrical construction/installation.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Willingness to work rotating 8-hour shifts (including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays) and overtime as required.
  • Uncompromising commitment to safety and proper PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal boots.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to self-direct in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must pass assessment test(s).

Core competencies

  • Think: Think Critically and Drive Change
  • Lead: Develop Talent and Collaborate
  • Do: Empower Performance and Deliver Results
