MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in automotive technology, plus two years of work experience as an automotive technician in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven automotive equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds) is required
• Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time
• Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs
• Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires qualified bidders and non-bidders to complete a written, skills assessment, pass/ fail TEST. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after test results have been analyzed and compiled. Bidders who receive a passing score on the TEST, will be interviewed. Selected for hire Bidders, will be hired in seniority order and according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Non-Bidders who receive a passing score on the TEST, will be interviewed. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following

• A current (non-expired) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification from the A1-A9 (Automobile & Light Truck) test series
• A current (non-expired) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification from the T1-T8 (Medium-Heavy Truck) test series
• A current (non-expired) Emergency Vehicle Technician certification
• A current (non-expired) Automotive Manufacturer Specific certification

Department of Human Resource staff will review applications after the final posting date. Staff will follow any and all required Employment/Hiring Plan provisions, federal, state and local laws, and Collective Bargaining Agreements when applicable.
