Position Summary Electrical Power Engineer (Summer 2026) job at Actalent. Roanoke, VA.The position falls within the substation department of the organization. The engineer will be working with senior level engineers to complete projects that support our customer. They will work with in‑house and client engineers and designers.Primary Duties and Responsibilities Prepare basic one line diagrams, project scopes, and cost estimates for substation projectsReview substation construction drawings such as electrical arrangements, plan and section views, grounding, cable and conduit drawings, and other project documents and verify compliance with appropriate codes and standardsAssist higher level engineers in conducting studies such as lightning protection, grounding, and equipment replacement and repair for substationsGain familiarity with equipment, material ordering, and bills of material for substation constructionTravel to project sites for walk‑downs and gathering information to develop the correct requirements for the projects to scope and develop substationsWork under supervision of Substation Engineers II, III, IV, and Senior EngineersPosition will require occasional site visitsEducation and Experience Zero to two years of experience in utilities working with substationsZero to two years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finishZero to two years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for substationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET)Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET) will count toward years of experienceAn EIT License is desirable but not requiredRequisite Abilities and Skills Intermediate ability to perform design calculations such as battery sizing, AC and DC loads, system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus bars, fittings, insulators, ground grid design, and lightning protectionIntermediate understanding of standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC and NESCPossess intermediate understanding of equipment, material, ordering, and bills of material for substation constructionStrong written and verbal communicationPossess ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipmentDemonstrate ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as necessaryDemonstrate willingness and capabilities to assume leadership rolesJob Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Roanoke, VA.Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
