Job Title: Electrical Project Engineer

Job Description

The Electrical Project Engineer will lead the planning, design, and execution of capital projects within a heavy industrial manufacturing process environment. This role combines hands-on electrical engineering design, project management, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver new installations, upgrades, and modifications to existing equipment. The engineer will ensure that all electrical systems meet performance, safety, and quality standards while managing budgets, timelines, and technical risks for large-scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems and components for new installations, upgrades, and modifications to existing equipment in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including budgets, scopes, objectives, timelines, and resource requirements for capital projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to determine project viability and recommend optimal technical solutions.
  • Provide technical support and expertise in electrical engineering to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and maintainability of equipment.
  • Perform calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate design concepts and ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations.
  • Select appropriate materials, equipment, and technologies to support effective project implementation and long-term reliability.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring completion on time and within approved budgets.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including process engineers, mechanical engineers, construction personnel, and other stakeholders, to achieve project goals.
  • Monitor project progress, track milestones, and identify potential issues, implementing corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Evaluate and select vendors and contractors for project execution based on technical, commercial, and safety criteria.
  • Prepare technical specifications, requests for proposals (RFPs), and bid evaluations to support vendor and contractor selection.
  • Oversee contractor work on-site to verify compliance with project requirements, engineering designs, and safety standards.
  • Ensure all projects adhere to quality control standards and applicable safety regulations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify compliance with engineering designs, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and promote best practices in electrical engineering and project management to enhance overall efficiency, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design drawings, technical reports, specifications, and progress updates for stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the mining, metallurgical, refining, and/or chemical industries.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects from conception through design, construction, commissioning, and completion.
  • Strong knowledge of high to low voltage electrical systems, equipment, and materials used in heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, equipment, and materials used in heavy industrial applications.
  • Proficiency with engineering software and tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and ANSYS.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience developing budgets and monitoring costs for large-scale projects with values greater than $1 million.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interpret and produce detailed engineering drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with process equipment in heavy industry, such as refinery, oil and gas, nuclear power, mining, metallurgical, or chemical facilities.
  • Experience within instrumentation, electrical, and controls within complex industrial environments.
  • Experience supporting or executing capital projects in a heavy industrial manufacturing process environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations relevant to electrical and instrumentation systems in heavy industry.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external contractors.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in contributing to the growth and development of a company that is planning to build a new state-of-the-art facility.

Work Environment

The role is based in a heavy industrial manufacturing process environment that involves working around large-scale process equipment and complex electrical and instrumentation systems. The Electrical Project Engineer will regularly collaborate with engineering, operations, and construction teams in both office and plant settings. The position supports capital projects and facility improvements, offering the opportunity to contribute to a growing organization that plans to develop a new state-of-the-art facility. The work may require time in production areas, adherence to site safety procedures, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the facility.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $90.00/hr.
