Organizational Context:

The INEOS Olefins & Polymers USA business is a major participant in the North American chemical industry, with an annual manufacturing capacity of 9.6 billion pounds of petrochemicals. Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (La Porte, TX), and Carson (Carson, CA), with a corporate office in League City, TX.
The 300-acre INEOS Battleground Manufacturing Complex (BMC) was originally built in 1956 and is located on the Houston ship channel east of Houston, Texas. Currently, BMC produces both high-density polyethylene and polypropylene. The polypropylene line has a capacity of approximately 320 million pounds per year, and the seven polyethylene lines have a combined capacity of approximately 3 billion pounds per year. The BMC site has a state-of-the-art technical center which integrates research and development, technical services and quality assurance.
Purpose of the job:
This role is part of the Electrical Reliability Team at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex and reports to the Electrical Reliability Team Lead. The team consists of engineers, specialists, and technicians responsible for supporting the site's electrical distribution systems and driving reliability improvements across the facility.
This is a hands-on plant electrical engineering role focused on troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and support of an operating chemical facility. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to diagnose and resolve issues in electrical power and control systems, while improving the long-term reliability of plant equipment.
The role requires regular field engagement and strong collaboration with operations, maintenance, and technical teams.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
The position is accountable for understanding and putting into practice the INEOS 20 Principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Troubleshooting & Plant Support (Primary Focus):
Lead and support troubleshooting of electrical power and control systems, including:
Motor control centers (MCCs)
Medium and low voltage motors
Power transformers
Switchgear and breaker systems
Main-tie-main electrical distribution systems
Diagnose issues involving:
Motor starters (across-the-line, soft starters, VFDs)
Protective relays and trip events
Breaker control circuits and interlocks
Provide technical support during electrical disturbances and outages, including off-hours support as needed
Partner with maintenance and operations to safely execute repairs and restore equipment to service
Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on equipment failures and develop corrective actions
Lead / Participate in formal and informal investigation teams as required for motor failures, nuisance trips, electrical equipment damage events, and power system disturbances
Reliability & Continuous Improvement:
Power System Support:
Support and maintain power system studies, including:
Load flow
Short circuit
Protective device coordination
Arc flash analysis
Apply study results to real-world system operation and troubleshooting
Configure and program microprocessor-based protective relays (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin) to support system protection, coordination, and reliability
Analyze relay settings and event data to support system performance and continuous improvement
Projects & Technical Oversight:
Support electrical scope for capital and expense projects:
Design review
Equipment specification
Startup and commissioning
Ensure compliance with INEOS and site electrical standards, accepted engineering practices, and safety requirements
Apply company standards consistently across projects, maintenance activities, and system modifications
Identify gaps or improvement opportunities in existing standards and develop updates to enhance reliability, safety, and maintainability
Contribute to the creation, review, and continuous improvement of site and corporate electrical engineering standards and best practices

Skills & Knowledge Required
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Experience in an operating industrial facility (petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, etc.)
Demonstrated hands-on experience troubleshooting electrical systems
Ability to read and interpret:
Electrical one-line diagrams
Motor control schematics
Protection and control drawings
Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems from low voltage through medium voltage
