Position: Electrical Switching Coordinator (Utility)
Location: Minneapolis, MN (Onsite, Monday-Friday)
Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST
Hourly Pay Rate: $69/hr.
Position Type: Long-Term Contract with Potential for Full-Time Conversion

System One is seeking an Electrical Switching Coordinator (Utility) to support the Distribution Grid Operations team. This position is responsible for developing and coordinating electrical switching plans that ensure the safe execution of maintenance and construction activities across the NSP distribution system.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in utility distribution operations, switching procedures, and electrical safety practices. This role works closely with the Control Center, Outage Coordination, and Grid Operations teams to ensure switching activities are accurately planned, reviewed, approved, and executed safely.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience with one of the nation's leading utilities while supporting critical electric grid operations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and prepare electrical switching requests and switching plans for the NSP distribution territory.
  • Coordinate switching activities with the Control Center and Grid Operations teams.
  • Ensure all switching plans comply with established safety standards, clearance procedures, and tagging requirements.
  • Review upcoming work schedules and prioritize switching plans for upcoming outages and maintenance activities.
  • Route switching plans through the approval process and coordinate revisions as needed.
  • Schedule approved switching plans with the appropriate operations teams.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Control Center questions regarding switching activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient execution of planned work.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of switching activities and system records.
  • Support continuous improvement of switching processes and operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
  • Utility distribution system experience (required)
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution operations
  • Experience developing or supporting switching plans
  • Knowledge of:
  • Electrical switching procedures
  • Safety tagging
  • Clearance procedures
  • Grid operations
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory or engineering principles
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Distribution Lineman, Troubleman, or similar field operations role
  • Experience working within a Distribution System Operations group
  • Experience using Oracle NMS or similar utility network management systems
Ideal Candidate Background
Candidates should have a strong utility distribution background with hands-on field or system operations experience. Individuals who have transitioned from field operations into system operations or switching coordination are highly desired.

Schedule:
Monday-Friday
7:00 AM - 3:30 PM CST
Fully onsite
Overtime available on an as-needed basis to provide vacation or operational coverage (not expected as part of the regular schedule)
