Step into a day in the life

Morning starts with a quick review of blueprints and specs. You map out wiring paths, confirm equipment locations, and verify the plan aligns with local and state electrical codes and the National Electrical Code (NEC). By mid-morning, you’re installing and maintaining wiring, equipment, and fixtures across homes, offices, and industrial sites. Throughout the day, you diagnose faults using ohmmeters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and hand tools, then connect conductors to circuit breakers, transformers, and related components. Before you wrap, you verify continuity and system safety, close out documentation, and ensure the work meets schedule and budget targets—always with safety at the forefront.

What you’ll handle

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in compliance with state regulations, safety codes, and the NEC.
  • Inspect systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and needed repairs or adjustments; confirm code compliance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to determine electrical layouts.
  • Plan layouts and execute installations based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components; locate causes of failures and correct issues using proper test equipment.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other system components.
  • Test electrical systems and verify circuit continuity to ensure compatibility and safety.
  • Supervise and train apprentices and less experienced team members.
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget while providing excellent customer service and addressing client questions.
  • Participate in required safety programs and consistently work in a safe manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.

What you bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as an electrician.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, tools, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with the NEC and state electrical codes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting ability and critical thinking.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
