Electrical Technician

? Location: Richmond, VA (South Chesterfield Area)
? Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
? Pay Rate: $36.25 per Hour
? Work Model: Onsite
? Shift: 2nd Shift (2:30 PM - 11:00 PM)
? Schedule: 40+ Hours per Week, including at least one Saturday per month
? Security Clearance: Not Required

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to join a growing manufacturing operation supporting industrial production equipment and facility electrical systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on electrical professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex equipment, solving problems, and working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong industrial electrical maintenance experience, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work independently while supporting production uptime and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose electrical faults involving:
    • Motors
    • Motor starters
    • Contactors
    • Relays
    • Transformers
    • Circuit protection devices
    • Power supplies
    • Heating circuits
  • Troubleshoot and repair single-phase and three-phase electrical systems.
  • Support plant-wide power distribution systems and production equipment.

Controls & Automation Support

  • Diagnose electrical issues related to:
    • PLC-controlled equipment
    • HMIs
    • VFDs
    • Industrial sensors
    • Machine safety circuits
  • Work alongside controls and engineering teams to resolve production issues.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of automated manufacturing equipment.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
  • Execute electrical repairs during planned equipment shutdowns.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) to prevent recurring equipment failures.
  • Document maintenance work, repairs, test results, and equipment updates.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safe-work practices.
  • Utilize proper PPE and maintain compliance with safety standards.
  • Maintain organized workspaces utilizing 5S principles.
  • Identify and address safety concerns before they impact personnel or equipment.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with maintenance personnel, engineers, production teams, and contractors.
  • Coordinate contractor activities, secure project quotes, and oversee onsite work.
  • Assist with mechanical maintenance and cross-training opportunities as needed.
  • Provide support during emergency breakdowns and off-shift maintenance situations.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

  • 4+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or commercial electrical maintenance experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship, technical program, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AC/DC electrical theory
    • Single-phase and three-phase power systems
    • Industrial motors and motor controls
    • Electrical distribution systems
  • Experience reading and interpreting:
    • Electrical schematics
    • Wiring diagrams
    • Control panel drawings
    • Technical manuals

Technical Skills

Candidates should be comfortable troubleshooting and repairing:

? Industrial electrical systems
? Motors and motor controls
? Electrical panels and transformers
? Power distribution equipment
? PLC-controlled machinery
? HMIs and VFDs
? Sensors and machine safety devices
? Production equipment in a manufacturing environment

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable standing, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • NFPA 70E Certification or Training
  • Experience applying National Electrical Code (NEC) standards
  • Allen-Bradley, Rockwell, or Siemens controls experience
  • PLC troubleshooting or programming experience
  • AutoCAD Electrical or SOLIDWORKS Electrical experience
  • Infrared thermography or predictive maintenance training
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting experience
  • Multi-craft maintenance experience

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is best suited for a maintenance electrician or electrical technician with manufacturing experience who can independently troubleshoot industrial equipment, read schematics, work with PLC-controlled machinery, and effectively support production operations while maintaining high safety standards. Candidates with experience supporting automated manufacturing environments and three-phase electrical systems will be especially competitive.
