Position Description

Under the direction of the class instructor, the lab assistant provides instructional assistance and support to instructional staff in lab settings. Assists in setting up lab projects and maintaining lab equipment. Assists instructional staff in updating and maintaining student performance records and provides observational information, feedback and input to instructional staff on student performance.

Position Essential Duties

  • Assists and supports instructional staff in assisting students, observing students and explaining lab projects and lab activities.
  • Assists instructors in settin up labs and equipment for various lab projects
  • Assists instructors repair and maintain lab equipment.
  • Helps instrucotrsupdate, record and maintain student performance records.
  • Provides feedback, input and observational information to instructional staff regarding individual student performance in the lab.
  • Performs other duties of comparable level/type.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of a HS diploma and at least one year related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Fundamentals and general principles in the lab content area assigned.

  • Fundamentals of learning concepts and principles. Operation and use of lab equipment in content area.
  • General record keeping and administrative support functions.
  • Skilled in using and demonstrating lab equipment and lab functions in content area assigned.
  • Documenting and maintaining project files, records and technical documentation required.
  • Working with, supporting and assisting students.
  • Establishing working relationships and communicating with instructional staff and students in a learning environment and in explaining concepts and use of lab equipment.
  • Learning and following directions from instructional personnel in use and operation of lab requirement and instructional assistance activities.
