As an Electrician I, you would lead others in making frequent decisions, affecting individuals, coworkers, and others who depend on the service or product.

Electrician I responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Install, repair, and maintain electric power, lighting lines, cables, and associated parts of circuits, both single-phase and three-phase.
  • Perform periodic tests, inspections, and preventative maintenance of electrical systems and equipment including alarm circuits and motor control panels.
  • Perform corrective maintenance and repairs of discrepancies found during periodic tests/inspections of systems/equipment and ensures proper functioning after completing maintenance; Ensure replacement parts and equipment meet specifications required to energize items being repaired or replaced.
  • Administer, enforce, and comply with OSHA rules and regulations including use of personal protective equipment Including arc flash rated uniforms and suits.

Additional tasks of an Electrician I may include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing cost estimates on small renovations and additions to the Public Utilities Department's facilities.
  • Collaborate with outside contractors through project completions assuring compliance with codes and contractual obligations to determine materials and /or equipment necessary.

Qualified candidates must have experience which demonstrates: Knowledge of state and local electrical, fire, and safety system codes/regulations, and Lockout/Tag-out system and procedures.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires high school diploma or GED/HSE and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in electrical systems or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Requires a Journeyman Electrician license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

OSHA 10/30 for Construction Work

Forklift license or operation certification Current CPR/First-Aid Certificate
