Electrician I - Westwego, LA


ARTCo New Orleans Shipyard is looking for an experienced electrician to perform all electrical preventative maintenance, including new installations, and repair of electrical equipment at the shipyard, on fleet boats, stevedoring rigs, and in the office. This position will report to Shipyard Management while receiving daily duties from the Lead Electrician.


Job duties are outlined below:


+ Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools

+ Diagnose malfunctioning systems, control circuits, electrical apparatus and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem

+ Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other components

+ Inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair

+ Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous

+ Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters or voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of system

+ Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures based on job specifications

+ Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment such as ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters and test lamps

+ Installs new wiring, conduit and a variety of electrical equipment

+ Perform small IT problem-solving for colleagues on-site

+ Other duties as assigned


Candidate will spend much of his/her day afoot and will occasionally work from elevated surfaces or near water.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.


If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
