Description Electrician Technician II

We are seeking an Electrical Technician Level 2 to assist in executing high-quality electrical projects for our commercial clients. Position Summary The Electrical Technician Level 2 is responsible for leading and/or assisting in the execution of commercial electrical projects, including the installation of conduit, pulling wire, and supporting rough-ins. This role involves performing routine preventive maintenance, diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, and reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics and blueprints. Technicians will test and calibrate systems using specialized tools to ensure compliance with building codes.

The position emphasizes safety and organization, requiring technicians to maintain tools and materials while keeping job sites clean.

In addition to technical skills, this role includes responsibilities such as:

  • Mentoring junior technicians.
  • Coordinating with project owners on job performance.
  • Ensuring effective communication regarding project scheduling, safety reports, and close-out documentation.

Technicians will be expected to plan installations and repairs strategically to avoid obstructions and interference with other workers, demonstrating advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in pulling wire, installing conduit, and supporting rough-ins for commercial projects.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and assist in diagnosing or repairing malfunctioning equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams to determine the placement of fixtures and outlets.
  • Testing & Calibration: Use specialized tools (e.g., voltmeters, ammeters) to test system performance and ensure they meet building codes.
  • Maintain tools and materials while keeping the job site clean and organized to ensure safety.
  • Assist in updating daily logs of activities and preparing basic technical reports.
  • May give instruction, direction, and mentorship to others on the job site, including an assigned helper.
  • Gather, collate, and classify information.
  • Coordinate with owner to ensure job performance and satisfaction, including job close-out scheduling and safety reports.
  • Select type and size of conduit, wiring, and related materials and equipment (such as supports, hangers, and supports) according to specifications.
  • Inspect worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that work performed will not cause structural damage.
  • Make plans to coordinate job site materials, subcontracted work, job schedule, and job close-out documents.
  • Plan installation and repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interference with the activities of other workers.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of electrical theories, circuits, and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Tool Usage: Familiarity with hand and power tools such as wire strippers, drills, and conduit benders.
  • Math & Analytical Skills: Basic algebra and geometry are required for calculating loads and taking precise measurements.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects (often up to 50lbs), and work in varied environments like construction sites or confined spaces.
  • Software Awareness: While technicians focus on field work, some roles may require basic exposure to AutoCAD or Revit for interpreting design documents.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Masters Certification or 10-15 years of relevant experience in electrical work or a related field.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical theory, including troubleshooting techniques and system design principles.
  • In-depth familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes with the ability to ensure compliance in all work performed.
  • Proficient in interpreting complex electrical schematics, technical diagrams, and blueprints for large-scale power distribution and lighting systems, including the ability to design electrical systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with industry-specific hand and power tools, including conduit benders, wire strippers, crimpers, multimeters, voltmeters, ammeters, and circuit testers.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior technicians, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Perform job tasks with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills

  • Associate degree in Electrical technology or a related field.
  • NCCER Electrical Level 1 or 2.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Safety.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Digital & Design Literacy:
  • Ability to perform complex bends (saddles, offsets, back-to-back 90s) with minimal material waste.
  • Knowledge of Cat6 cabling, fiber optics, or security/fire alarm.
  • A fundamental understanding of how to wire starters and control circuits.
  • The ability to plan work by identifying exactly which connectors, fasteners, and wire gauges are needed.

Travel Travel is frequently required to and from job site locations.

Work Environment While performing duties on this job, the employee is frequently exposed to various indoor/outdoor climate conditions and temperatures. They will also be exposed to frequent fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, etc. Noise level exceeding 85 decibels will require hearing protection. Other hazards might include electrical shock, burns, explosives, radiant energy, mechanical hazards, etc.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. They will need to stand approximately 70%, walk approximately 20%, and sit approximately 10%. The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear.

The employee will need to be able to carry and lift up to 50-75lbs and move up to 200lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
